I picked up a 8" AR500 round target and stand early this year. I liked it so much I have bought a 10" with a stand & a 7"x 12" that fits on a steel fence post. I have so much fun shooting them I am planning on getting more this winter. Are there any of you guys & dolls "shootin' steel"? IMG_20201102_163807097.jpg

Chuck has me beat too, but I do bring an 8" gong to the range most of the time.

My eight year old (at the time) thought that it was shaped like an animal head so made a chalk drawing of a bear and preserved it with clear coat. I asked him why the bear was sad and he looked at me like I was an idiot and said "Because he's gonna get shot". Of course I can't stand the thought of ruining it so only shoot the other side.

Yes we do! We are lucky to have a range on our land and have an 8” gong at 100 yards and 200 yards. I sourced mine from Amazon...i am planning on getting some smaller ones soon...we have had a great time practicing on these.

Mine is all in the back of my SUV. Along with a large range bag and a storage chest with target, spare ear muffs etc. etc, hunting jackets, hats etc. Seems to stay there all throughout the year.

Hi...
One of the gun clubs I belong to has steel plates on the handgun range out to 25yds and on the rifle range out to 200yds.
The other club basically banned them... can't get an answer as to why. We test loads on paper there and then shoot for fun on plates at the other club.
We have one that my son bought but we rarely use it except on the rifle range and generally only when we are shooting the ARs and SKS rifles.

I shoot a Steel Challenge every week. It's a semi-organized one, nothing official and only sometimes timed. 4 white plates and a stop plate. .22 only. I generally use my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite with Tacticon Predator V2 atop. For 3 weeks past, I used my KelTec PMR 30 with irons. Actually was getting quite good with that, but lack of availability of .22 Magnum stopped me with a scant 3 boxes left. We're just about done this year, for the weather, and most will start shooting inside. I don't particularly care for the inside stuff, but I have to start moving dirt tomorrow for another berm that will provide backstop for a second dedicated pistol range next to the one we now use.

Love shooting steel... but not so close!

I'm used to shooting hanging steel pipe... it makes a lovely noise when hit with a 405grn .45 cal bullet. The furthest I've shot was 1244yds... at 1350fps, I fired, got up and poured myself a cup of coffee, then sat back down to hear the 'DING' of the bullet off the steel.

Yes: normal handgun ammo only- no magnums.

The club forbids rifles, unless pistol "caliber" (chambering), on Action Pistol lanes because AR .223 bullets etc can break the front weld or bolt protrusion on the club's steel targets.
Large plastic bottles are the "steel" for my AKMs and VZ-58 (from the Czech Republic).

Most of you realize that it's not that unusual for a bullet or fragment to bounce once or twice and hit you from 10 yards-or further.

>>Always wear shooting glasses.
To paraphrase a former Navy SEAL who hurt a guy's hand during a handshake: "You have an extra eye (instead of hand)".
