Who scopes their .22s?

My 3 22 rifles all have optics.
I like the Vortex 4-12x44 Sonora.
Inexpensive and hold up well.
My camo Savage has a 3-9x40 camo Nikon

I like a scope on my 22 rifle.

As a rule I believe optics do everything better than irons. I've always preferred optics, even when I was younger with better eyes. The only downside is more weight and bulk. I have one Ruger 10/22 with peep sights on it, which are much better than factory irons. But every other 22 has optics on it. Some with low powered scopes for fast close work, others with a lot of X's for shooting way out yonder.

Not many of them as I use them for new shooter instruction and for the delight of my grand daughters. (Winchester 67, 62 & 61) Here's one of the two exceptions: a Marlin Century Limited 39 made in 1970. The scope is a 7/8" Leupold "Alaskan" 2.5x. And BTW, this same rifle is zeroed for a Williams Fool Proof receiver peep, as seen in the lower Pic. As I've aged into my late 70's, even a peep is difficult to use with accuracy...scopes will be my last resort. Best Regards, Rod

I have a 22LR AR-16 with a red dot sight on it.

Also, have an older Winchester 22 LR bolt rifle from the 1930s or 1940s, I don’t remember the model number at the moment, that has 4x rimfire scope on it.
(edit, it is a Winchester 69).

My Marlin 39A has had a scope on it but I’ve gone back to a peep sight.

I’ve gotten to the point that I see scopes better than irons so going forward, any new 22LR rifles will probably have scopes on them.

The only 22lr rifle I own that is not scoped is my Marlin Model 99M1. And the reason it is not scopes is because it still has the factory rear sight on it. I don't want to loose the rear sight since they are hard to find and expensive.

It seems like half the 99M1s I see listed for sale are missing the rear sight.

Hell, mine is missing BOTH sights!

My dad had lost the rear sight while he used a scope on the rifle sometime when he was in high school in the 1970's - the rifle only a few years old at the time. I bought a new rear sight assy probably 12-13yrs ago, and when I went to put it in my parts drawer for safe keeping, I found another one, and realized that I had bought one probably 5yrs prior... But I shot it from 5yrs old through high school with no rear sight - at which time the FRONT sight also came loose and fell off, so I've shot it now for >35yrs with only one sight, and now ~25yrs with no sights at all... The 99M1 truly is the belle of the Marlin ball - I've loved a lot of 60's and a few other Marlin's for a long time, but the 99's are just a joy.

I keep one Marlin 60 with irons, and that old 99, but the rest of my 22LR rifles all have scopes, as do several of my 22LR handguns.
