Who scopes their .22s?

Have a few of different types. The Buckmark Silhouette with a 2 MOA Gilmore is not shown nor is the 3x12 513T. The 16" 510 shoots pine cones at 200. Ram Meister I cut it out and put together IMG_0016.jpeg in Steve Brady's shop, had a week to go before the match, tied for 1st in Intl Class Unlimited Any Sight at the International SB Championships with that custom built center grip Anchiutz IMG_0460.jpeg . An interesting combination of .22 Rimfire rifle and scope is this Pre-WWII Marlin 39 and Marlin scope. The previous owner was a well-recognized Marlin expert and collector who's research indicated the scope had actually been mounted by Marlin and sales tag was still connected. Apparently the rifle had never been fired, and it still hasn't for the 40 years I've had it, though occasionaly I've been tempted. DSC_0622.JPG DSC_0621 (3).JPG

The only 22lr rifle I own that is not scoped is my Marlin Model 99M1. And the reason it is not scopes is because it still has the factory rear sight on it. I don't want to loose the rear sight since they are hard to find and expensive.
I've had a few of them, and only one was missing the rear sight. I didn't have an issue mounting a scope without removing the rear sight. 20220819_135849.jpg
I'll mount a scope on any .22 rifle I own if it's already drilled or dovetailed. I won't put extra holes in them though.

Rifles wise, 17 with, 2 without. One of ones without a scope is a Remington 121 that I leave un-scoped because that's the way it was when I first started shooting it at about 5 years old, and that's how God intended that gun to be. ;) The other is a CZ 452 Trainer that I leave un-scoped because I have other very similar guns scoped, and I enjoy shooting it that way once in a while.

And my .22s generally get my best scopes because I MUCH prefer sighting through scopes that are clear and pleasant to my eye. I put so many more rounds through the .22s than the centerfires, so it doesn't make sense to me to put lower-quality scopes on my most-used guns. I hate sighting through a crappy scope, regardless of the gun's chambering.

All my .22 LR Rifles are aperture sighted.

I put a 2.5x on a Ruger 10/22 and at any range at all it is way faster and more accurate. On older stuff, have an old pump gallery gun, just more fun to shoot open sights. Not quite as fast, and you have to pump it which slows it down, but - open sights just keep old school old school, part of the fun. If I wanted to actually hunt squirrels, I'd use the scoped 10/22. I have a cheap Winchester Wildcat .22 that is pretty decent for what it is, that I've put a red dot on. I never compared it to the scope, but it did work really good, and it was a fun way to try working with a red dot, and the target is easier to pick up than with the scope, and very accurate off hand out to 50 yards, but I'd bet not as accurate as the scope. At 25 yards, just shooting steel gongs on a stand, and action targets, the Red Dot being easier to pick up targets would be the fastest and most accurate. Like if you were just playing shooting gallery for speed, for me anyway, if you lose the target with the scope, or can't find it quick, there is a lag that isn't there with the open sights or red dot.

As with other members, I have a mix of scoped and unscoped .22 rifles. The earlier 5-teen Remingtons are not drilled and tapped and do not have dovetails and thus are scope free, as is the Remington 33. A later 512 has dovetails and wears a 2x7. The other bolt actions and a couple of 10/22s have scopes. The recently acquired 9422 is a bit of a dilemma for me--I like the looks and handling of it without a scope, but the shooting I have done with it so far makes me think that it has some potential for some pretty good accuracy and a scope would help wring that out.

Only my Marlin 39a, Win 67 and CZ 452 Super Match are not scoped. The Ruger 10/22's came with Tasco's. The Win 63 has a Weaver 4x. The Win 69a has a Weaver dual crosshair. CZ 457 Varmint has a ClearRidge. I have become a big fan of ClearRidge and now have 2 others for rifles. I am thinking about a tang sight for the 39a.

My favorite 22, my Marlin 39A, has a small 28mm RF Leupold on it. I like the look of the smaller optics on that slender gun. To each his own, but some 39A photos look like they are scoped for Elk.

I have 3 old Marlin/Glenfield .22's. One is a Marlin model 60 that I picked up back around 95. It came with I think a cheap tiny 4 power scope. It now wears a Bushnell 4x32 scope if memory serves correctly. The other is a 70's vintage Glenfield model 25 I had an inexpensive 3-9x32 on it that had a light up reticle. My sis-in-law was having coyote problems so I loaned it to her because she wanted a light up reticle. After the coyotes were handled I put that scope on her model 60 & zeroed it for her. Now the Glenfield is wearing a Burris Fullfield ii 3-9x40 I had laying around waiting for a host. The third is a Glenfield model 75C. Due to is being shorter I wanted to keep it light & handy. The Marlin rear sight was moving around so I just put Tech Sights (aperture sights) on it. I haven't had an opportunity to zero it yet.

Geez, I thought I posted a picture of my .22 rifles earlier. Guess not. Heading out to the Dodgers game shortly, so, post one tomorrow.
Love these pictures you guys are posting.
