Fess up. Who's already getting ready for fall hunting?

For us, deer season is just a culmination of an entire year. We go to gun shows, pick up new gadgets and such, spend time at the range testing and practicing, then November rolls around and we try to wrap things up. It's also a lot of fun spending time with friends and family talking about past hunts and looking forward to the upcoming season.

Kid n dad have started the running/walking routine and will hit the range a couple of times a month to keep edge.......

Two Colorado hunting brochures showed up in the mail yesterday! Big Game (Elk, Deer, Bear, Antelope and Moose) and Bighorn Sheep. Spent all evening looking at them, perusing maps and hunt data. Looking at the calendar.

Off to the range this weekend with some new handloads - trying Swift Sirrocco bullets instead of the old tried and true Sierra Gamekings.

So I guess you could say I'm getting ready for fall

I'm ready for fall all year round. Shooting my longbow every chance I get, while shooting my revolvers with hunting loads.

i'm always thinking of the fall hunting seasons. i spend tons of time behind my rifles keeping sharp so that when the ol' 30-pointer steps out, i'll be confident...

i always keep an eye out for where the deer are, how big they are, how many, and how many i think might be bucks... this time of year i just watch them, but in another month or so, i'll be actively keeping track of their movements...

by the time august gets here, i'm ready to explode waiting on deer season, and there will still be another month to bow-opener, and 4 months to rifle.

elk tags are coming due, so i'm thinking of that, now...

meanwhile, i'm punching targets, calling coyotes, and can't wait to get out on the dog towns.

Me too, JohnDog - brochures yesterday. No time to peruse, but it does kinda start to set the stage, no?

Let the dog out this morning & there's about 30 elk in our back yard, not 20 yards from the house.

Kinda wanted to do the right thing & reunite at least a couple of their cousins - right into the freezer.

Obviously couldn't (didn't), but still was way cool havin' 'em walk on by ....

Can't yet get psyched for "fall," but there is tomorrow.

Guilty!

Sighted in a new KM77 7mm mag yesterday. Bought a sweet new sling, Butler Creek elastic deal, very comfortable. Ive also been pricing range finders and bino's.

Also invested in a "Sportmans Pac" hunting licence. Pretty much lets me hunt for "something or another" all year round. Also known as practice for fall!

We are always getting "tuned-up" for season.I have 3 english setters,and mostly pheasant,quail hunt.Thats the great thing about bird dogs-its always "getting ready time"

Yeah, I'm always ready for fall. But right now I'm dreaming about spring turkey season. I'll go in the rut for deer season about the end of April. Gobble Gobble.

Small Game season just ended in Colorado with the last day of February. I managed to get out nearly once a week all season.

I can't wait until it opens again.

I went to the range yesterday and fired a 1949 Model 70 in 06 that I bought a while back. Just shot 125 grain rounds and discovered I don't like to shoot it one bit!

So I'm thinking of selling it and getting a .243

In the meantime I will keep up the woods walking and try to call in a few coyotes which are always fair game here.

I have my weekly brisk walk at 8000 feet up to 10 miles minimum per week and some weeks up to 15 miles. Sure helps when out in the woods.

The hunting package is made ready immediately after the last hunt of the year. I put an average of 2000 rounds downrange of stuff I hunt with every month from field (hunting) positions. I try to keep fit all year around, but step up the cardio three or four months before the seasons start.

Labgrade: you don't shoot the local herd! One goes over and shoots the neighbors herd. I have too much fun watching the old lady chase them out of her garden Lived on a working cattle ranch in Montana and loved the depredation tags.

Coltdriver, we always used the 110-grain Hornady for a varmint load. And, put on one of these new "Kick-Eez" (spelling?) recoil pads. They're supposed to reduce felt recoil some 20% or so more than does a Pachmyr...
