Why 358 Win so unpopular?

I love the length of most 358s you get a carbine like length in a powerful caliber. Id take it over a 7.62 any day.

So what have you actually shot with it to confirm it's superb power?
ford8nr, that was a good question to the OP, and the answer is apparently 'nothing'. He has started multiple posts on this same gun/caliber, with the identical references to Viet Nam, high value of his personal rifle, difficulty in finding ammo, questioning lack of respect for the caliber, arguing with those who are more knowledgeable then himself about ballistics, etc.

He even stated in one of his earlier treads that his $3K .358 converted Ruger was an excellent home defense weapon. It's all been covered multiple times in previous threads from the OP.

I just simply wondered why it isnt a more popular round.. I never really argued with anyone. Take the soap opera somewhere else and keep my post clean please, thanks. I dont talk about my kills without pics. Its meaningless and beside the point of the post. Also there is truth to it there is serious money dumped into my 358 AND my father who is a gun smith and has been pretty much since he got out nam put it together. So id take a walk if I were you. As for the HD thing yeah I have Irons with a big dot and a firearm that shoots a bullet a smidge bigger then an AK which are so rampant with criminals in Detroit. So HD?? Your damn right if need be but this isnt my only option anymore. It only was when my XDm 9 was stolen and then I was left with only this firearm. Do me a favor stiab and stay off my thread or keep it on point.

Stabid does have a point. If you browse threads about the .358, your posts, rehashng the same information repeatedly, seems to comprise the majority of most of them. He wasn't exactly back-talking, but did make a rather valid point. Reading posts about the .358 round anymore is like reading the AR v AK threads...just the same information rehashed over and over, always with some fan boys who believe their gun is superior. How many times does the same discussion have to occur? I'd understand if each thread was loaded with new info and revelations, but the fact of the matter is, the bulk rehash the same opinions verbatim. Its obvious you feel its a great round, but in reality, theres noot a whole lot it can do that a .308 can't in a lighter quieter, lower recoiling package. Both will kill deer or hogs as dead as can be, and you have the added advantage of factory ammo available everywhere ammo is sold, basically. Its not a "bad" round, but its not heads and tails above ther performance of a multitude of other rounds, which speaks as to its waning popularity. It simply isn't "special" in the fact many other rounds can do what it does quite well. Nothing sets it apart as legendary in any way

First, drop the snark, please.

Second, Folks like Ford8nr, Stiab and Davek1977 have valid points. Over the course of several threads, you've gotten all the info you need about your rifle and the .358W. You've been informed about its ballistics, use, and why it's not more popular. And you've not always been receptive to the information offered, either.

Also, IIRC, it was made clear in one of the earlier threads that you'll need to reload for it. That hasn't changed. If you're going to shoot this rifle, you'll need to reload for it. Yet, this thread is evidence that you're not reloading for it, so all together this thread does represent a sort of re-hash.

My suggestion at this point is to simply shoot the rifle. Reload your own if you're willing, shoot factory if you're not. Once you get familiar with your rifle and the cartridge, you can ask specific questions, which will be more directed and informed. If you can't shoot the rifle because of its chambering, I suggest buying something else, re-barreling it, or accepting that it'll largely be a safe queen. It looks to be a fine rifle in a fine cartridge, but that the .358W is a rare cartridge is a hard fact of life.

I didnt get all the info I wanted.. 1stmarine gave me what I was really looking for. I didnt start a thing and theres nothing wrong about talking about a caliber or firearm on a gun forum is that why were not all here? I dont really have anything else to say on this thread but I do know some threads I made before I am unable to find, even in search, and had crucial information I was trying to save so now I just keep my email reply notifications for those threads.

I see not a single thing wrong with what I did and if you do then something isnt right. I dont have to be a member of this forum and no one has to read my topic of interest. Im a normal member like anyone else, why I choose to get attacked I dont know..

but please, if you have nothing beneficial to say to this thread then please dont say it. I need some of the info in this thread. Thats all I ask and I dont think its much. If people just want to attack me I wont stand for it as im not being aggressive or attacking ANYBODY.

BACK on point-

BTW, you don't HAVE to reload for it even though im choosing to learn. Winchester makes runs every 2 years (I know not good enough) but companies like Old Western Scrounger, The Hunting Shack, Buffalo Arms co, etc make ammo for the 358.

I will admit I have a thing for the 358, im just impressed with my firearm thats all. I never had a rifle like this one before.
