So funny, guys posting about the Glock hate, and nearly all of them have bad things to say about the 1911. Just struck me as funny that as they complain about the lack of Love for their preference, they use the 1911 as the whipping post for their comparison. Do unto others and all that jazz......

Not all Glocks Kaboom and not all 1911's jam every third round.
They are both good designs with occasional hiccups.

An endless debate, but I will say that the 1911 folks seem to be a bit more polite about it heh heh. (Nomex Flame Suite On as one guy put it).

People hate the 1911 because they buy a $350 Colt/Essex gun show put-together, grind on it some more with a Dremel, then cuss out all 1911s that were ever made as being unreliable. Or else they pay $3000 for a tightly-fitted match gun and expect it to run in the mud.

One thing actually worthy of criticism: the way manufacturers figure you're going to rebuild it all from the ground up anyway, so why bother with QC-ing them before they go out the door?

I'm glad they don't like them, and they can say mean stuff about them all they want.
They can believe all the morons who say you must get all this "reliability work" done to them.
It just leaves more for the rest of us who prefer them, although it does seem like there are a lot of manufacturers out their making all kinds of them for something so hated!

Delmar, you're right about that. Funny that the 1911 is such a horrible design that even S&W and Sig came out with them recently. I don't see any Sigs or Smiths with the "Safe Action Trigger" on the market yet.

Don't get me wrong, I think Glock is a sound design, I just don't get the bashing of the 1911.

If Glocks survive damn near 100 years then we'll have a good debate.

Personally, every time you see any kind of gun rag there is either the latest incarnation of a 1911 or Glock.

Enough already....what about the rest of the industry?

Personally I want to get a 1911 but make mine an Armscorp....it's gonna get fed the cheapest .45 ammo anyway. Besides if I'm gonna use something for defense, it'll likely be a modern gun in a modern caliber.

Sig 229 anyone? In maybe say, a .40? ;)

"it's gonna get fed the cheapest .45 ammo anyway"

No way, Bud. I make the cheapest 45 Ammo in my house, an you can't have any :neener:

I suppose that non-1911 owners are offended or confused by the unabashed and oft apparently illogical devotion that many 1911 owners have toward their beloved pistols.

I mean, why spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for a pistol based on a one hundred year old design that is heavy and has a low ammunition capacity compared to a modern plastic pistol?

Why buy a heavy and expensive Rolex or Omega watch when a $4.99 quartz watch from Walmart is lighter and might keep better time?

An inexpensive and reliable Walmart watch and a Glock are both sensible, practical, economical, and functional, albeit rather boring.

Nonetheless, and I know that I have written this before, although I have a fondness for 1911s and carry a Wilson Combat CQB Compact for work, if there is a bump in the night, I grab my G23 with 13 rounds of RA40T and a Surefire light.

I haven't bought the cheap watch yet, but I do wear an Omega.

Actually all my P-08's, C-96's, P-35's and 1911's have performed flawlessly. Not bad for a bunch of old guns. Polymer? we don't need no stinking polymer.

uummm.... I'll kindly remind you that I spent a whole $25 for my Wally World Timex, thank you very much! :neener:

The difference is that while there are guns I don't like, I don't spend all my time thinking up snide remarks to post on threads having to do with guns that I don't care for. I honestly believe that some folks wouldn't have anything to post on these forums if they had to give up Glock bashing.

You know, there's no denying that Glocks have a few warts--they are designed and made by humans, after all. But in spite of that, people aren't content to gripe about the real issues. They have to exaggerate non-issues as well--I guess this helps them feel really justified in ranting.

At least the 1911 lovers usually don't bash those of us who actually carry and use revolvers.

Come to think of it, very few of the Sig lovers do either.

It seems actually that glocks have a lot going for them.

Glocks seem to feed anything. They rarely ever jam.
Of course if you removed more of the bottom of the chamber in a 1911 they'd be more reliable too.

Glocks go boom each and every time you pull the trigger.
Just ask the DEA agent who told the school kids that he was the only one he knew who was professional enough to carry a glock 40.

Glocks are so ergonomically designed they fit almost anyones hands.
With a 1911 you'd have to change the trigger, mainspring housing or grips to get it just right for your hand.

When a glock won't fit your hand they'll invet a new cartridge to fix that. None of the 1911 companies will do that.
You're just stuck with all of that old fashioned normal pressure ammunition.

Glocks are so safe they don't need a manual safety.
A 1911 is so safe you don't need a holster.

With a glock even if the bad guy pushes up against you you can still shoot him. You can't do that with a 1911.
Because the 1911 was designed to be unable to fire out of battery.

Glock has great factory service. When your glock goes kaboom they'll sell you another one wholesale.
If you should ever actually manage to kaboom your 1911 beyond repair, you're pretty much on your own.

Seriously, I really have nothing against glocks.
Many of my friends own them and they all seem to love them.
Almost as much as they love their revolvers and 1911s.

Glocks and 1911s both suck...
Hey, Wild, your pants are on fire ...

I don't like the way Glocks (don't) fit my hand, but I'll never say that they're bad guns.

I do like the way 1911s feel in my hand, and to my eye, they're prettier.

Chacun à son goût. :)

Plastics make it (im-)possible

I don't like the glock, but I spent the money to rent it and try it out so I would know for myself, instead of listening to some second or third hand rant. The glock is a brutally effective and (in my eyes) unelegant design but it works, and in the end that's all that matters. When I rented the G17, I got very decent groups and did just fine shooting it, but for me it was the most gawdawfullly uncomfortable thing to shoot. To top it all off, two weeks later I rented an XD9 and I think I'm in love! Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I had to edit this post after I put on my flame-proof skivvies.... :D

I wont bash a kimber, I wont bash a colt, I wont bash a Springfield, but I think I (and everyone else who shoots pistols) have the right to bash the AMT hardballer.

Irrelevant.

[ducks]

I wont bash a kimber, I wont bash a colt, I wont bash a Springfield, but I think I (and everyone else who shoots pistols) have the right to bash the AMT hardballer.
Mine was pretty reliable, before I started using it as a parts gun. The accuracy sucked though... I kinda feel sorry for it. Nothing left but the frame, slide, trigger, bbl bushing, and bbl...

AMT built the first staniless 1911. Everyone else improved on it. Too bad AMT didnt.

I had a Glock 21 and got rid of it. The BS about Glocks going "boom" every time is just that BS. My Glock would hiccup occasionally, fail to eject, fail to return to battery. This was with a variety of quality American made hardball ammo.

The Glock was a good gun, certainly not unreliable, but also not the relentlessly reliable machine some of the Glock advocates make it out to be. So far my out of the box Kimber 1911 has been more reliable. The Glock is great gun and I might even buy another one day, but people need to be a bit more realistic about its capabilities.

I'm probably throwing gasoline on the fire here but I find that single stack 1911s fit my hand very poorly (yes, I've tried all the changes and add ons) and I shoot badly with them. On the other hand, my hicap Paras fit me perfectly and I shoot well with them. :neener:

Personally I love the way my Glock 17, 22, 34, and 35 fit me. On the other hand I found the Glock 21 far too large until I had a grip reduction done on it. Now I shoot it better then any of my Glocks (and "almost" as good as my Para 16.40). ;)

1911 hate? Where?

I love my 1911s but hated the glock...not for its quality, but for its grip angle and wierd trigger.

I bought a Springfield XD-40 not too long ago...wow...better plastic, for sure!

I love 1911's. However, the 1911's I've owned are the only semi's I've ever had reliability issues with (despite using quality ammo and magazines).

SA Mil-Spec parkerized: Frequent FTF
SA Mil-Spec stainless: Frequent FTF
Kimber Stainless Target II: Frequent FTE
Dan Wesson Pointman Major: Frequent FTF
Colt pre 70 Series: Rare FTF
Colt 70 Series 9mm: Occasional FTE
Colt M1911A1 WW2 Reproduction: 100% reliable

The SIG's, Beretta's, Hi-Power, BDAO9, Steyr, and other semi's I've owned all functioned flawlessly out of the box.

As I said I love 1911's, no other pistol feels better in my hand or is more fun to shoot, but I cannot believe that my negative experiences with 1911's is an anomaly.

Also, many (myself included) feel that the gun rags focus too much print on 1911 style pistols.
