Why can't gun companies make money?

Came here to say Ruger makes money.

See others made that point.

Maybe I'll just add, that a company such as Colt could be making a LOT MORE money if myself and 4 or 5 other folks were running the show. Just saying.

General Electric who is more into financing and banking than washing machines and jet engines.

General Electric still has a large jet engine component that is part of GE Aviation. They sold the GE Appliances division to Electrolux last year. GE Aviation has purchased a number of aviation and aerospace firms during the 2000's to consolidate their position in the aviation industry. They've had an annual growth rate in the Aviation Division of 8% and posted $22B in revenues in 2013. GE Capital revenue was $17.4B for the same year. So your contention that they are "more into finance and banking" is not true.

Or Proctor and Gamble who's into making kitchen appliances than soap for those washing machines.

P&G make NO large household appliances. Here's a link to PG.com All Brands - you will see they make health, grooming, home care, and beauty products as their major product lines.

P&G products do include Braun grooming products, Braun small appliances, and Duracell. But, that's hardly appliances at the level of Whirlpool, Electrolux, and Bosch.

Again, you contention that P&G is "into making appliances than soap" is also not true.

Seems like there is a problem with short-term memory for many contributors to this thread. Wasn't it just two years ago that these companies were running at capacity, 7x24 and could not keep up with demand? They had record quarters and the big argument is that they should expand so they could fulfill the influx of orders?

There may be a memory problem, alright, but I'm not sure whose problem it is.

I don't remember the general argument being that firearms manufacturers should increase their capacity for building firearms. Not at all.

The ONLY thing I remember people commonly suggesting expansion of is rimfire ammunition production.

We knew the panic was a short-term thing.
