I have an older revolver that used to have an orange insert on the front sight and markings for the read sight and I'd like to paint up those areas so I can see them better.
I already tried some fingernail polish, a trick I used on another gun, but it wouldn't stay. I finally figured out that the Buckmark (the other gun) had a paint finish, so the nail polish trick worked.
Can I use metal polish to get paint/polish to stick on bluing? It makes sense to me - bluing originates from rust.

Actually, the problem can sometimes be simply that there is a miniscule oil film. Pre-treat requisite areas first with some alcohol, to degrease thoroughly - then try again. I'd not use metal polish!! Yes Bluing is a type of rust but chemically altered in nature.

BrightSights paint is useful - Charlie who sells Smart Carry sells them or did - http://www.smartcarry.com/
