IS there any difference between a winchester 180 grain ranger SXT and the 180 grain talon. I have two boxes same exact thing except one says talon and one says SXT everything else is identical.

Are you sure? My ranger SXT's are copper jacketed. The Talons I have probably have a copper jacket in there somewhere, but you have to dig under the 'black' of the Black Talon, to find it. 900F

The XST and the talon are both the same the newer SXT are brass colored and the older one are black. Winchester rep told me that SXT meant Same Exact Thing.

First rule of thumb. If some one uses the same exact thing for both you can discount what they say.

It does not matter if it is a sales rep or cop. Remember the sales rep may have been selling toilet paper for P&G last month. Many cops could not tell you what brand of gun they carry never mind useful information on their duty round.

Ranger SXT is a close cousin to the Black Talon. The powder is different and some specs changed from time to time.

Ranger T-Series still uses a reverse tapered bullet like the SXT but it was modified to increase its expansion window. Now that it operates at a wider range of velocities it does not need the black lubalox coat.

The SXT family of bullets is quite big. It started with the Black Talon. Next was the Ranger SXT with the regular civilian SXT right behind it.
In 1998 the Ranger T-Series came out and now the Ranger T-Series Enhanced should start showing up soon.
