I bought a used 190 ( a cheaper, tube fed, semi auto) a few years ago. Until recently, it has been accurate and 100% reliable. Now, it goes off about 40% of the time. I've tried 6 different brands of ammo. It feeds and ejects fine when it does go off. I've rarely dry fired it, and the firing pin seems to be intact. The hits on the primer seem a little shallow compared to other .22's in my collection. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
HB

Break it down and clean the bolt and firing pin extremely well. Could be a build up of residues and dirt causing the malfunction. Friend of mine who is a gunsmith claims 90 percent of problems such as this can be dured by a deep cleaning.

Thanks

Thanks, but I've cleaned this thing at least 3 times and degreased it. Still won't fire.

Check the chamber in the firing pin area for peening. even if you don't dry fire you can still cause wear from normal use. It is an easy fix to iron the chamber back out.

Thanks

I think I found the problem: The barrel is loose and is backing out of the receiver. Apparently that occurs on the 190's. (thanks to the guy on rimfirecentral that pointed that out).

190 problem possible solution

Hey... Check the barrel by pulling it out then attempt to push it back and notice if you can move it either direction... There is a barrel nut around the barrel that screws into the receiver and holds the barrel in place which if loose will cause misfires(snapping). To tighten the barrel nut you will have to remove the magazine tube and forearm . gnprts
