I have a Winchester Model 12, 16 gauge modified that had a Williams "giant head" left handed safety installed. Looking for a right handed safety to swap out.

Are these shotguns worth much?

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I am in the camp that believes the Model 12 was perhaps the best pump shotgun ever made. It was just too expensive to make because of the amount of hand fitting required.

As far as worth, it's very condition dependent. Gunbroker has 16 ga. model 12's from $395 for a fairly rough old 16 with polychoke, to $1,500 for a very clean 16 ga. skeet model.

Thanks for all the replies, a tremendous help. I also think the Model 12 is a great shotgun, I have a 20 gauge that I bought in 1963, just a plain field grade. I've shot it many times and my wife used it when we went dove shooting. She killed more birds than a lot the guys that were shooting. I've never had to do anything to it except keep shells in it, that's the reason for the question about the safety.

It's too bad they don't build shotguns like the Model 12 today.
All machined parts and fitted together by real gunsmiths.
The machined parts were steel not alloy or plastic. And walnut stocks.

The last Model 12's made by Winchester actually cost more to make that what they sold for!

Winchester Mod. 12

I have one that is a full choke nickel finished 12ga. what its value is I'm not sure. All I know is that when bird hunting with my boy's they won't let me take point. This works in my favor anyway, I still take the most birds. The action is so smooth that while unloaded if I release the action the bolt almost opens just with gravity:neener:

Excellent combat shotguns. The boys at Iwo and Saipan had great luck with their M1912 trench shotguns with buckshot and bayonet, and heat shield.

I have two of 'em, both built in the roaring 20s.

Butter wishes it was as smooth as the actions on them.

My model 12 was made approx 1928 and looks as slick as new. Took me a few years to find one I liked, but I am a proud owner of it now. The only thing I need to do is replace the wood. Not because it is damaged, but because a previous owner shortened the buttstock too much for me. It will be an upcoming wintertime project I think. Hang on to your model 12 and give it to your grand kids some day. It will be still working.

That is a pretty Model 12. I'm not very good at taking photos of firearms, always glare or something.

I've got a model 12 in the 12ga., I paid $150.00 otd for it but it was a basket case, took that puppy home and with some TLC made it into an actual showpiece, even though it is just a field gun. They are a very nice handling shotguns and definitely made to last.

I inherited my dads Model 12 when he passed. He had 2 of them, I have one, my brother has the other. My brothers is a 12 ga. full choke, plain bbl, field grade made in about 1926 IIRC, with a nickel steel bbl.

I have dads Model 12 Trap, 1950 I think, 12 ga, vent rib, full choke, beavertail forearm. Mechanically sound and very smooth operating, it will fully open when you press the release. Dad used it as his main field gun though so it has it's share of 'patina'. I take it to the trap club and shoot a round with it occasionally.

They are the Colt's Pythons of the shotgun world.

Used to be regular production, but do to the amount of hand fitting and polishing, were discontinued by Winnie some years ago.

They are widely considered to be the greatest production pumps in human history. I used to have one that was slicker than pigs snot on a greased icicle rink. Very nice pointing a shooting little shotguns. Not that valuable as of yet, but just like Pythons, I think the value is going to soar in coming years.

They just don't make em like they used ta.

I now have a 20 and 16 gauge. Bought the 16 because a local shop didn't know what they had and the price was really good. Had the 20 over 50 years.
