I lost my receiver plug screws for my new 10/22 so I stuck the scope mount screws in there for now, This is my home defense gun until I can get some more 12 gauge ammo.

I'm concerned about the quality of the threads on the 4 mounting holes on the receiver and the fact that I'm using the rail mounting screws to plug the holes in place of actual plugs.

Paint is peeling off the receiver as well.

Anyone have any input on this?

Don't worry about it, I don't have the plugs, either, and use two screws in the front two holes...my rear holes are covered by the screws for the Techsights.

Theholes on my 10/22 have been open since 1987 when I took the scope and rail off to go rabbit hunting. its never been an issue. I was 10

I would be more worried about the fact you are using a .22 as a Home defense gun.

There are worse choices than an easy handling high capacity semi-auto .22lr.

I know a girl who chased a man out of her college apartment with a Hannah Montana umbrella.

This is my home defense gun until I can get some more 12 gauge ammo.

Dicks is having a great sale on 12ga. ammo right now.

I just bought 10 value packs (15 rounds) of 2-3/4 OO buck.

with a Hannah Montana umbrella

Seeing that would run me out faster than a 12-Ga Mossberg "racking slide" sound.

Rightfully so; the Hannah Montana umbrella probably has more lead in it than a tube-mag full of buckshot. ;)

If it was my choice, I would feel safer leaving the holes empty than installing screws to fill them. If they protrude into the receiver too far they can cause function problems. If the holes are empty that can't happen.

The screws supplied with the scope mount are too long without the mount, and will protrude inside the receiver and rub on or lock up the bolt.

Take them out and leave the holes empty until you can get the correct length plug screws.
