New Henry Big Boys come drilled and tapped -- no need for the cantilever mess. Still, would you scope it, maybe peep sight?

I'm leaning toward buying one and throwing a 4x fixed scope on it, as I tend to have to squint for anything after about 30 feet (I could see otherwise, sure, but that's where I start squinting).

Wondering if it would be worth it in anyone's opinion?

I don't see why not, depending on what you intend to use it for. Might as well, if you want to and don't have to modify the rifle. But since it's a pistol caliber, I don't think you'd want to over scope it with too much power. I don't know what the effective range is for a .357 rifle, probably 300 yards I'd guess.

If the scope helps you to see the target better, by all means, avail yourself of it.

I would because of my eyesight. I can no longer see the rear sight of an iron sighted firearm.....chris3

I have an H006M (.357). It is far and away my favorite rifle. Y'know....the one that ALWAYS goes to the range with you.

I killed two bucks with it the first year I had it with the stock semi-buckhorn sights. I also passed up a couple of shots because range time had proven that with my eyesight I simply couldn't shoot accurately enough with the stock sights to take shots over 50 yards.

I've since replaced the semi-buckhorn with a folding rear sight and added a tang sight. When deer season opens this fall, I will have no hesitation taking shots out to 100 yards.

That said, this winter I plan to buy an H006 (.44 mag) and scope it with a fixed 6X.. If the .44 mag is anywhere near as accurate as my .357, I will have no hesitation using the .44 for deer sized game out to 200 yards with the right cartridge.

I wouldn't scope one, I would upgrade to a peep if possible.

But if you need magnification to see what you're aiming at, then there isn't much else to do about it.

You beat me to it. I personally wouldn't scope a lever-action. I prefer a receiver mounted peep sight. But owning a gun that you can't use is pointless, if you need a scope then mount one.
