Wow!! New Sp101-.327mag 4.2"bbl.

I just got the email with Ruger's new SP101. It's the same as their other 4" models, but this is .327mag with a 4"bbl. Now, this might make a nice woods walking gun!
That fast flat shooting little cartridge with the longer barrel for extra sight radius and velocity, but combined with a small frame for easy carry...
This could even possibly make a great duty gun.

I see this being a very very versatile little gun. I don't have anything in .327mag yet (not a reloader and don't want to get caught without factory stuff if the chambering gets axed) but this might just put it on my wish list.
 
I was looking at it, too.
But the ammo might be a problem, even with reloading.
The bullets themselves might not be as available as other calibers, one day.
A .38/.357 with light bullets would probably come very close to the same thing.
Just a thought.
 
Let's see...32 S&W, 32 Long, 32 Magnum and 327 Magnum all out of the same gun. That covers everything from angry mice to a fairly decent self-defense gun.

Some enterprising gunsmith may even figure out a modification to be able to use 32 Auto.
 
^^ Actually, you can use .32 auto, as its rim is just enough wider than the rest of the case to be caught by the extractor star, or so I've read.
 
Hmmm, are they going to re-release the 3" version? Is sure hope so! This 4" job looks great, but I sure wish it came with a half lug barrel like the .22 SP101 has. Would look and carry better. Still, seems like it'd be a great little carry gun if the long barrel doesn't make it too long.

I'd but it would do well in a high ride pancake... oh man! Now I've got the vapors for this gun!! :D

The only way it could get better is if they made it a 3 incher, make the front sight a night sight, and well... that's about it!!
 
I have the .327mag in a Charter Arms,the only problem I have with the .327 is the noise.my granddaughter shoots .32 sw long in it with good results,have not tried .32hr mag yet.Not very accurate with .32auto.Have not been able to lay my hands on a Ruger sp 101 yet.
 
I hate you so much right now Ruger. Why the crap would you re-release this with a long barrel on the small frame instead of a 2.5" SP or a 6" GP?!?!. You are single-handedly killing this cartridge by not putting it in platforms that make sense without needing custom work. Do we need to wait for Talo or Lipsey's again?! At the very least the original recipe SP/GP/BH offerings could have been revived at the same time.
 
I personally think that this would be a great all purpose .327.

Yeah its not so easy to conceal, but with a high ridin pancake I bet it'd work. I have a GP100 with a 4" barrel, and I can IWB it pretty well with a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake. The main reason why I don't carry it though is the cylinder is too wide and the gun prints. I'd imagine with the SP it would conceal far better, and I'd still have 6 shots of .327 Fed Mag. Plus it'd be notably lighter and less bulky all around than my GP.

I'm interested in this piece, seems like it's just small enough for CCW but has enough bbl to really let the .327 shine. I like the sights too, they work well on my Dad's SP in .22 LR.
 
I'll take a snub version. Maybe next year.

I wonder if this will lead to a LCR in .327.
 
Looks really good, even with the .2" for Canada (I swear it makes guns look odd). However, with my 4" Model 631 in .32 mag and my 5.5" Single Seven, there's too much overlap for me. Hope it does well in keeping the cartridge viable, though.
 
.327 needs the 4" to do what is claimed for it. Shorter, you might as well load up hot .32 H&R Mags.

So...it looks like I'll put my 4" SP101 .32H&R up for sale, now. Really wish this had been a DAO LCR 4" instead. Don't think I'll hold out for it, though.
 
I wonder though if this .327 magnum would be any more effective in real world that the .22 magnum? I think an SP101 seven shooter in .22 magnum would be even better.
 
I have one of the original all steel SP101s in 3" and it is one of the most accurate hand guns I have because it is so easy to shoot in the SP size.

I shoot as good with it at 25yd as I do with the 6" Smiths and Wessons I own.

As far as handloading for it, I was able to buy cases for it from Starline when I couldn't get brass for any other caliber. I cast my own 90 gr Lee TL SWC bullets for it and it shoots really cheap.
It's a barrel of fun at low velocities and using .327 FM brass and 4.5 gr of 231 with the 90 gr swc bullet, it's hard to beat. Accurate as hell! I have more fun with that thing, I out shoot people at the range at 25 yds with it with them shooting 7yds with larger, longer barreled guns.

As soon as I find XTPs for it again I will buy another 7-8 hundred of them for loading full magnum loads. I'm down to my last 200 now. They are loud as hell but .327FM is like 41mag in a way, it seems inherently accurate with anything you put in it.
I'm more than happy with mine and it's one of my revolvers that I will never part with.

I'd have to handle it to see how far it balances. The 3" is a perfect fit for my hands and very easy to sight. It's like part of my arm.

More than 6 shots would mess up in subconscious counter with a revolver.
 
I just looked at it from 19-3Bens link, Has the makings of a real tack driver.

I may have to check one of these out. I see it has the fibre optic front sight on it and the stock rear sight, that's good. I bought the Williams Fire sights for my GP100 and put them on it. Big mistake! I took the back factory sight back on it and left the front Fire sight on it,
YEA!!! Good combination. Took me from 8-12"group offhand standing down to 4"off hand standing immediately. The back sight it not wide enough for me, I can't see any daylight around the front sight with it.

Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud.

That's not a scratch on the barrel, just a strand of cat fur. There is a fair amount of it in the Rodent abode. (The cats like to be petted when I wear my reloading gloves; I guess they like the feel on their fur.)
 
??....how new is this?

because i could have sworn i saw an SP101 in .327FED when i bought mine in .357 over a year ago....
 
Okay wel... this gun is giving me the vapors, BAD.

It appears I can get .32 S&W Long for about $0.35 per shot, and can get .327 Federal Magnum for about $0.40 per shot. This gun should be economical enough to shoot, before I get set up to reload it methinks. Holy crap it just seems like the BEST, enough tube and good sights. It's a 6 shooter, but a small frame. Enough weight but under 30 ounces so not overtly heavy. In a good holster I bet it'd carry well, and would be fantastic as a trail gun and for personal defense in all environs.

Boys, I'm getting one of these when I can find one!!
 
I have recently purchased .327 Gold Dots for $8/box and Am. Eagle 100gr for $18/box.

And I just listed my 4" SP101 .32H&R for sale locally. Hopefully, I'll be able to move it and then also be able to get one of the .327 version. If not, I'll still have my .327 GP100 to console me for the loss. :D

Yes this is somthing that I would like very much. The longer barrel should be a big plus for this cartridge (as in more velocity and power,) the longer sight radius would make it more easy to aim.

It is not limited to short range (yes I know snubbies can shoot far but not without tons of practice it's just not easy) personal defense (but would still do) like a small snub nose nor is it a heavy hulking mill stone that will never let you forget you are carrying it for every hour, minute, and second it's with you. It is not so long that it can double as a blunt tomahawk or night stick like some other revolvers.

It's a normal very well made firearm in a normal size made for normal shooting activities. It's about time.

The trend these days with gun makers is to go on one end of the extreme or the other. It is good to finally see balance in the firearms industry again.

Ruger is doing it's part now when is Federal going to honor their committment to produce adequate amounts of factory .327 ammo.

There are quite a bit of reloading options with it since it can accept almost the full range of all available .32 caliber centerfire ammunition.

Ruger, LOVE YA! Can't wait to get my .327 SP101 with the 4.2" barrel and adjustable sights!
 
This is what makes my head explode - I don't know if I should wait to see if other guns like the LCR or GP 100 are chambered for 327 Mag, or maybe S&W re-releases a 327 Mag, or what if the same factors that led them to stop making 327 in the first place leads to Ruger ending production on 327 guns again... in which case I need to run right out and buy this ASAP because it may be the last 327 production gun ever.

Oh worra worra worra what should I do?
