Wow, these $125 Avanti/Daisy 853s from CMP.ORG are accurate!

34285A15-76D7-4413-B1F4-A19C53C24853.jpeg Full disclaimer … I have an Olympic quality Beeman PCP charged air rifle, where the stock configuration is extremely specific for target shooting, plus a trigger measured in ounces, but I wanted something more general to mimic my offhand shooting for my M1 Garand high power and then flintlock longrifles, as I also compete in flintlock offhand competitions.

Anyways, I just picked one up from the CMP for $125, did the trigger modification adjustment from Pilkguns, and got the trigger to 2-pounds, although I might put it up a little bit heavier.

But I can’t believe it, so far all 5-shot groups (Meister Klugen pellets) are between a dime to no bigger than a nickel at 30’ offhand. In use it actually handles and holds much like an M1 Garand, although I might add weights to increase the overall weight of the air rifle.

I am VERY IMPRESSED with the accuracy from a single-pump springer!

I shot 10 meter air rifle in jrotc when in high school, these well 753s were the starter guns. I made expert shooting 290 or better of 300 with these, I've shot more perfect scores with the daisy even after I was using the ansuhutz. They are very accurate and cheap, pretty easy to upgrade the trigger if allowed.

What's with the 'Avanti' term? Anyone know? Was this an attempt by Daisy to have a good air rifle, but one distanced from the typical 'Daisy BB gun' moniker?

I got one a little over a year ago and have more fun with it than anything else. I shoot in my basement. I had to put a scope on it as my eyes are not very good any more. It is probably the best money I ever spent.

I bought 4 from the CMP when they were $105 5yrs ago. All four are likewise equally accurate.
I use them at a youth camp one week each year. I use a target adapted from a 25meter pistol target at 11meters. (~33’). With good pellets, a 50/50 is possible with the 3/8” 10ring.
BTW, they aren’t “Springers” but single pump compressed pneumatic. I’ve got one that I had to replace the seals on as it would leak down enough to fail to clear the pellet from the bore.

Proper lubrication is key to longevity.

They’ve been a tremendous investment. Have held up far beyond my expectation.

My CMP surplus 853 is incredibly accurate, and helped along by the outstanding sights. I use it for chipmunks out past it's effective range, and any misses are all my fault.

Offhand? I would say that says more about you than the rifle.

No. It is just a series/model line, sort of like the Powerline predecessors of it. I grew up with the Powerline 880 and my brother had the 881.
