Wrong Ammo!

I fired 9MMPs out of a 40 S&W barrel in my Browning HP. i wondered why accuracy was so poor, then.....DUHHH!!!

.380 ACP (9x16mm) ammo in 9mm Makarov (9x17mm) pistol
Over all length is roughly the same. 9x17mm cases and bullets are a fraction fatter.
,380 ACP will fit a 9mm Makarov chamber loosely, but 9mm Makarov wont fit a .380 ACP chamber.
My son got a good deal on a ".380" Makarov pistol because the owner found it inaccurate.
It was not a .380 conversion. It was original 9mm Makarov caliber. But it functioned sorta.
What threw me off shooting .380 in it was this. I pulled the magazine. Racked the slide. the .380 round in the chamber slipped off the extractor and stayed in the chamber. With 9mm Makarov ammo it was a good shooter and worked fine and safe.

Yes, this is where my brain was going. The 380 is a semi-rimmed case, but I could not remember if the 9x17 was SR or flush-rimmed. Which would matter if a person were to, say, accidentally stick a 9x17 into a 9x19.
I have a recollection that the 9x19 dimensions are unsuitable for 9x17, but I do not remember exactly why. At least not today what with my head full of Massachusetts Stretch Code climate requirements for the ComCheck my project requires. It's very much like trying to get a 9th round into a 1911 magazine.

The .380 is a rimless case, in that the head diameter and rim diameter of the case are the same. Its older siblings, the .32 ACP and the .25 ACP are semi-rimmed.

Scrounging brass at the range years ago I found these in close proximity to each other and put them up in a baggie as curiosity pieces.

Two empties, two cartridges headstamped .45 Colt.
Three empties, two cartridges head stamped .44 Rem Mag.
Two .44 Mag empties look like they were fired in a .45 Colt revolver. I thought it was curious at the time.

BTW That cartridge on the end is headstamped FC .44 REM MAG but the case appears to be .44 Special length with a big lead bullet. Curious gets curiouser.
