WST Powder $45 … WHY?

I keep hoping to run across a place that has VV powders in stock. Would love to find a little stash of N105 now that it's discontinued, even if it cost me $50/lb.
I didn't notice if they had any N105, but Midsouth Shooters has a lot of VV powders in stock. I just picked up 8lbs (2 4lb jugs) of N310 this afternoon for $40/lb

I stocked up on powder and primers when it looked like our next president might be named Dukakis. Thank goodness that never happened, but as it turns out investing in stuff that you will use one day is a good idea, because nothing ever goes down in price.

anywho. Going to make Accurate 4100 work!
No, I didn’t. Nothing like that. Not even an inkling.

Accurate 4100 is a good .357Mag powder BUT! it’s only really good with a heavy bullet in a barrel long enough to take advantage of the burn rate - 5”+ for a clean load and longer to reduce muzzle blast. With a 2-4” barrel - and/or a wider than typical b/c gap and/or a larger than typical throat diameter - 4100 is not very efficient.

It’s much better in the .44Mag and .45Colt (modern strong action) in my opinion - but the gun still needs a tight gap and proper throat diameter for the bullet.

Stopped in my local Cabelas today. Most powders were at the "new" prices. St Marks ball for 40 or more per pound. AA2495 and 4064 over 50. You don't want to know about the Alliant and Hodg extruded powders. Snapped up 4 lb of Zip for 90something. Best deal on the shelf. Never used it, but looks promising for boilerplate 9mm and 38 SPL. The HP38 and 231 large cans were still at "old" prices, 1 lb cans at new prices, but the zip was a better deal. Takes me a Long time to go through 16 lb of fast pistol powder which is about my present inventory. They won't get any of my money for at least a few years now. Was hoping to get ahead of small pistol primers before stuff got dumb, but just haven't found the deals. Hope I don't regret not going deep on $8 primers. Oh well!

The bullet does matter more, but powder can very well indeed make a large difference.

I agree. I feel like I get better performance and enjoy some powders over others.

When did I say, “ …[the] powder don’t matter,”?
You didn’t…unless you edited.

Trophy husbands tend to exaggerate reality…it’s harmless.

😂

I called my "powder dealer" asking about VV 140 (gonna start loading .223) and they want $44 for a pound and $265 for 8 lbs. Gonna bite that bullet and supersize it as that's $33 per lbs in bulk.
So I went and bought an 8 pound jug of N140 today. $265 + tax made it around $280 out the door. The 8 pound jug or Varget was $362! Wow! When I commented on it at the counter, the guy said he expected the VV to go up in the near future.

If you are anywhere in the Marion TX area, Bexar Community Range is a hidden gem of powder.
