X-Treme Bullets?

FWIW, I’ve shot a few thousand X-treme plated bullets, 9mm and 45ACP. Their increased shipping costs after bankruptcy/reorganization priced them off my shopping list. But, I do think they are excellent plated bullets. I only shot the heavy plated RN and the HP which are only offered as heavy plated.

BTW, I’ve noticed while searching the web that cast bullets for the .30 Carbine are almost exclusively .309” and 115 gr while jacketed bullets are .308” and 110 gr.

I started with Xtreme 9mm bullets when I started reloading.

I soured a bit when their shipping got slow, but understood how they were overwhelmed during their sales. I soured a bit more when a couple of friends experienced undersized bullets and Xtreme's response was that they were "within spec." We do have to thank Xtreme"s business model for the founding of RMR

Even when I switch 9mm bullets suppliers to RMR, I continued to buy .357" slugs from practice ammo (15k+). What made me swear off Xtreme was the combination of waiting 2 months for an order (10k) and then their Chapter 11

That's a funny way of looking at it. ;)

What @longdayjake told me was RMR was a dealer for X-Treme bullets (This was before the bankruptcy and sale of X-Treme/Freedom Munitions to new owner) and during one of previous shortages, X-Treme cancelled many dealer shipments of bullets so they could sell more direct to customers evaporating income for many dealers, including RMR.

This experience was main push behind RMR working to manufacture jacketed bullets in-house instead of just reselling manufactured plated/jacketed bullets. When ordering bullet manufacturing equipment and components, Jake demanded consistency to the highest levels so in-house manufactured bullets had more consistent bullet nose profile/ogive, sizing and weight variance. Over the years, I noticed RMR manufactured bullets produced more consistent finished OAL with 9mm bullet sizing of .3555" for improved neck tension (Like .3555" sized Speer GDHP and TMJ) with weight variance of less than 0.5 gr and perhaps why ELEY decided to use RMR manufactured bullets for their centerfire match ammunition - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ntain-reloading-bullets.921035/#post-12672677

Interesting

I’ve used many of them…my picture only shows a sample:) But the last several boxes (during pandemic but don’t know when they were actually made) of 45acp gave me inconsistent seating depths. Using a T-7, Redding die, sorted brass I’d have to seat longer than I knew I needed to then turn down the micrometer. Not a terrible bother since I load very low volumes.

I didn’t call them about that. But I did call about a misprint on their boxes several months ago and they offered me free shipping when I said I always bought from Cabelas and not directly from them. I liked that.

Just last month got a box of Berry’s and the consistency is back. But I’ll likely go back to Xtreme next box.

What’s the word on these guys, X-Treme Bullets?

They’ve been around since 1973(?) but I haven’t heard of them.

I was looking for GC .30 Carbine bullets from Montana Bullets Works but those are no longer available and their prices seem to have skyrocketed.
I've been using a variety of their bullets for 10 years now. I use 30 cal in my 30-06. I have no complaints. I only order when they are on sale.

Berry's make a fine bullet. I ordered my 357 sig bullets from them. The problem I had was the bullets were so soft I had trouble with neck tension. So I switched to extreme and have been using them every since.

I stocked up on Xtreme 95gr .355” for .380 and a variety of .40 cal from one of the bankruptcy liquidators. I also bought some early post-buyout .45’s for my FiL and he had no problem with them. They loaded and shot like jacketed.

The new owners seem to have things moving in the right direction.

I've used Xtreme in the past, and they seemed like every other plated bullet. They make a very nice .41 plated bullet, and my initial ladder gave me some very promising results... so I'm tentatively 'IN' with Xtreme.

Another nice thing... Xtreme provides load data for their bullets, they have a manual available online for download. The one caveat to that is... of course... there is no data for the .41 bullet. (I have an email into their tech department to see if they have it, yet.)

Anyone wish to comment in particular about X-Treme’s cast bullets?

While I like X-Treme plated bullet I have used, I have not used their "hard cast" lead bullets. And they list 18 BHN for both Cowboy Bullets and Lead Bullets - https://www.xtremebullets.com/Bullet-Load-Info-s/1952.htm

"All of our Hard Cast Lead Bullets are approximately 18 on Brinell."
I found if I am not pushing max load data with my lead loads, softer lower BHN bullets bump/expand the base better to seal with the barrel. So while 18 BHN MBC "IDP #1" 200 gr SWC has worked well, for lighter target loads like 45ACP 200 gr SWC with 4.0 gr of Red Dot/Promo, softer 12 BHN MBC "Bullseye #1" and 14-16 BHN Z-Cast 200 gr SWC have worked well for various 1911s and M&P45 without leading the barrel (To me indicates sufficient deformation of bullet base to seal with the barrel).

Lower BHN bullets are particularly helpful if your barrel is oversized.

I have loaded thousands of their plated bullets and still buy from them now , seems their shipping has improved while I never had an issue

I have never had a problem with their bullets or shipping . I buy when they are on sale .

Xtreme is in stock at the local Bass Pro Shop so no shipping for me. I have used their .430" 200 grain bullets in my 44 Special and Russian rounds. No issues, they seem to be quite accurate.
