You ever see something that, well, you just HAVE to have?

Did I ever see something I just had to have?

Every time I walk into a gun shop.

Every. Single. Time.
Me Too! What’s wrong with us? 😆

My wife used one of my own lines on me a while back. I told her that I was excited to see that my LGS had new Ruger Redhawks and Blackhawks. She said “I thought you said you wanted some Henry X rifle. or something like that, I swear. Sometimes you’re flakier than a snowstorm!”

When it comes to guns I think she’s right. 🤪

Rust collector,

Take a measuring stick to those Ubertis. I think you'll find the barrels are 4-3/4" from the face of the cylinder to the muzzle. Barrels measuring 4-5/8" come from Ruger up in Prescott or back east someplace. The Italian makers patterned their guns from the Colt original barrel lengths, at least to start with.

Dave
Right you are! I always assumed that the 4 5/8 was a standard size, but should have remembered that Ruger always went his own way, even though his designs bore a faint resemblance to Lugers, M-1 carbines and single action army revolvers. It took awhile to warm up to that Wrangler with free-spinning cylinder and no half cock, but it is more accurate in my hands than the Rough Rider. Thanks for the excuse to take the old girl out of storage and recall those thrilling days of yesteryear!

It's been awhile but the last one I saw I just has to have was this Uberti Richards Mason in .38 special.

Never cared much for Single Actions. I've owned several over the year, Colts, USFA, Rugers. I love looking at them, holding them, working the actions.
Just don't care for shooting them.

I do have a Ruger Single-Six, haven't fired it in years.

I love single actions. I don't like double action anything. I do have five DA revolvers but I never shoot them DA. I always cock the hammer first.

Yep.
About 20 years ago when we were in Houston for a football game, we drove by a strip shopping center where Collectors Firearms was located.
I went in the gun store to browse while the wife went into a used bookstore next door.
A half hour later we met outside where she proceeded to show me the great bargains she got on 3 children’s books for $5.
Then I showed her the long sought after grail gun - Colt Texas Sesquicentennial.45 - I bought for $2,000 (including tax).

Must be nice to have an understanding wife that didn't instantly cash out your life insurance policy.... Hahaha!

I went into an LGS in Elko, Nv a couple of years ago and found the companion for my old CVA Walker for 350.00 and included a holster. It was in literally unfired condition. Both are now peaked and tweaked fully tuned no loading lever drop excellent shooters. By the way my bench is currently open if anyone wants a 20.00 discount on a tune. Black powder revolvers only.

"You ever see something that, well, you just HAVE to have?"

Me, I'm a practical man, a man of maturity and wisdom. I never let emotions control me. Logic rules the day for me.

OK, so I'm lying. 😞

@LGS "Oh my lord! That's too cute. Must have 😛. Too expensive:thumbdown:. Quick, leave the store 👮‍♂️! Control yourself, man! ... This one, this one here, so what's your real price on this?" 😞

Well it ought to if you did the work!! Where did you go?
Well, went to the beach, then to Nashville and back to the beach ( whirlwind week!!)!!
My son put on a car show, check out "Cars of 30A" ( @carsof30a insta.).
We all had a great time but it's good to be back in the shop!!!

Mike

Neither of those would be an impulse buy for me, now without a year or two of saving and selling blood plasma on the side!
However, the little blaster went to the range again, shown here with Da Boy - it seems to like 125 gr bullets the best, further experimentation in the planning stages.

Here's a recent example of how "impulsive" I can be. A month or so ago, I saw a really pretty Model 15-2 with "Pearl" grips on it. I don't care what Patton said, I LIKE pearl grips. I stuck the thing on layaway while I did some research. The finish as nice as it was, was darker than I thought a Smith and Wesson should be. Almost a black. With those white pearl grips, it REALLY looked sharp. But I was concerned about the finish. Don't ask why it just sort of bugged me, so when a really nice Model 67-1 turned up (the stainless version of the Model 15 for those who don't speak S&W) I did a swap on the layaway. The Model 15 went back in on the shelf, where I figured it would be snatched up and I'd never have to think about it again. I eventually picked up the 67, took it home and was happy.

BUT!

That darn Model 15 wouldn't go away. It just stayed there right front and center of the display case. From time to time it would move, as if someone had looked at it, but it was always there, like that darn puppy that just keeps staring at you until you finally give in and feed it and you become his.

I said over and over, No, I'm not getting it. My wife just laughed. She was right. It's back on layaway now.

I have convinced myself it's not a refinish. The roll marks are sharp. The lines are sharp. The trigger and hammer are case hardened. If it is a refinish, it's a really good one. I had thought the stocks were Franzite (a cheap plastic) but these are much nicer than the Franzite ones I've seen. Eagle grips makes a set that look just like them, that sell for about $200 with the S&W medallions. Who knew?

Maybe I'm fooling myself, and it has been refinished, and those are Franzite grips, but what the heck. It still looks nice. And I got three months to change my mind again.

Shoot Black Powder Revolvers!!!! you will rethink the world of guns!

the smell alone will bring back memories of firecracks and ant hill & bottle rockets!

CajunBass

You're right... she is a beaut!!!

I would have a hard time walking away from that!

The finish looks great, even if it was reblued, which I doubt seriously is the case here.

And Franzite grips never looked that good, as well as having S&W medallions on them!

At least you did the right thing and put that baby on layaway!

Mark, I already do that...

But, I did just get finished loading up a bunch of tester 148gr wadcutters and cast/sized/powder coated a bunch of 158gr SWC bullets to try out. I WILl find the sweet spot, so help me Wyatt Earp!

I suppose the same holds true for the S&W M60 I picked up from the LGS on Tuesday. I already have one, but the opportunity came along and the price was right.

I'd have no guilt taking that M-60 home either, Dave...a no-IL Smith M-60....in its BEST bbl. length....great on the hip, easy to hide, good for woods travel as well as jaunts down to the convenient for bread, milk and beer...what's not to like...plus, if your other one takes a header, you've got a back up. Well done Sir. Rod
