Here's a recent example of how "impulsive" I can be. A month or so ago, I saw a really pretty Model 15-2 with "Pearl" grips on it. I don't care what Patton said, I LIKE pearl grips. I stuck the thing on layaway while I did some research. The finish as nice as it was, was darker than I thought a Smith and Wesson should be. Almost a black. With those white pearl grips, it REALLY looked sharp. But I was concerned about the finish. Don't ask why it just sort of bugged me, so when a really nice Model 67-1 turned up (the stainless version of the Model 15 for those who don't speak S&W) I did a swap on the layaway. The Model 15 went back in on the shelf, where I figured it would be snatched up and I'd never have to think about it again. I eventually picked up the 67, took it home and was happy.
BUT!
That darn Model 15 wouldn't go away. It just stayed there right front and center of the display case. From time to time it would move, as if someone had looked at it, but it was always there, like that darn puppy that just keeps staring at you until you finally give in and feed it and you become his.
I said over and over, No, I'm not getting it. My wife just laughed. She was right. It's back on layaway now.
I have convinced myself it's not a refinish. The roll marks are sharp. The lines are sharp. The trigger and hammer are case hardened. If it is a refinish, it's a really good one. I had thought the stocks were Franzite (a cheap plastic) but these are much nicer than the Franzite ones I've seen. Eagle grips makes a set that look just like them, that sell for about $200 with the S&W medallions. Who knew?
Maybe I'm fooling myself, and it has been refinished, and those are Franzite grips, but what the heck. It still looks nice. And I got three months to change my mind again.
