Well my daughter just turned 8 Nov 22nd and she already shoots rifles and pistols and has her own rifle and has gone to several gun classes. We are a shooting family and we all joke around about the ANTI's and the things they say.

Well this morning my wife played joke on me and took my carry gun out of my safe and hid it under a back pack on the kitchen counter. I walked in the kitchen and grabbed the back pack before I went to the safe and saw the gun and my wife said to my daughter WELL THAT BACKFIRED ON US.

Well I had to go out of the kitchen for something and the gun was on the counter still and my wife and daughter where still in the kitchen and I told my daughter to keep an eye in my gun, because you know guns kill people.

And with out even hesitating she laughs and says " NOT UNLESS PEOPLE PULL THE TRIGGER"

I guess I taught her well.

Depending on the gun, it could have also fired if you had knocked it off of the counter as you grabbed the backpack.

Yea - somehow i don't really find jokes with hiding guns on people very funny.
I imagine the context of the joke is hard to explain or would take away from the story. It was probably one of those "you had to be there" kind of jokes.

But, yeah, I agree that I don't see what about that is funny.

Thank you expvideo that is correct but I didnt expect people to dissect my story and find negativity in it.

I wont speak my mind anymore about this subject.

Welcome to the internet. Don't let it get to you. It's a good story, and I enjoyed it. It doesn't matter what you say on the internet, it will always be dissected and second guessed. Especially on gun boards.

Just don't let it bother you. Soon enough someone will come along and point out spelling errors, but there are still those of us that can read your story and see it for what it was without blowing it out of proportion and picking it apart.

You're the people teaching her that guns are not toys, guns are not something you joke around with - yet you turn around and play a prank with a gun.
It doesn't take a whole heck of a lot of "picking apart on the internet" to see that's a conflicting message to be sending to an 8 year old....

Again, sorry if I don't see the humor in it.

You let your daughter into the same room as a gun?!?!?!?!?!?!? Don't you know that children are the preferred targets of rogue guns gone mad?! Especially the evil black ones. Oh, please tell me it wasn't a black gun? That's just negligent!! :what:

:neener:

Just messin'. Good story. I wasn't there so I'm not in a position to judge the "safety". Sounds like you're raising a bright little girl. One more for the good guys. Keep it up!

Dude, you posted the story, not us. I'll say the same thing about jokes with guns that I too often have to say to chuckleheads playing with knives: I've never seen a joke with a gun that ended well. At best, they end with a mild chuckle.

honestly i think its good they are comfortable around the gun rather than freak out about it, can be a little more responsible later in life in similar situations when she isnt in the comfort of her own home and family..... just my 2 cents
great story btw:cool:

No j charles it wasnt a EVIL BLACK GUN, it was a SW1911SC, and anyway shes way to fast for me, im not good at hitting a moving target. We dont play jokes with Evil Black Guns, thats just too dangerous. And everyone knows an Evil Black Gun is too big to hide under a back pack.

Your right 1858rem, my daughter is very aware of the danger of guns and refuses to be around anyone who has them except me and her best friends dad. And she only trusts her best friends dad because he works for the Sheriffs Dept and DEA and she trusts him.

jcramin,

Who cares what they nitpickers think, you have a right to be proud of your girl. Sounds like she is a responsible young lady who will do you proud.

Heck, mine doesn't even talk to me.

I thought it was funny. Some people just insist on acting like they have a long gun up their keister...:banghead:

I have 4 and 6 y/o boys, and they are learning about gun safety, and danger, and we're having a good time about it. Having a good time with firearms and being safe are not mutually exclusive...believe it or not, the two can be combined. S-A-N-T-A is getting them a .22 this year, and we are going to have fun shooting it. I would have to assume that a family is safe enough to incorporate the two if they: 1) have sent their daughter to several firearms classes 2) has purchased a firearm for her 3) has one or more firearms for concealed carry (and appropriate license/permit) 4) keeps their firearms in a safe 5) all other safety measures that they have taken but not told in the story due to the fact that it WAS JUST A DAMN STORY.

Why don't you people quit acting like jerks to fellow enthusiast by assuming the worst. In this case it only makes an ass out of you. Now I realize that almost everybody on this site are all high-speed low-drag special forces fresh off the front line of Starbucks...err, I mean Iraq/Afghanistan, but some people use firearms as recreational time with their families and is supposed to be a fun thing to do and a way to spend quality time together. That doesn't mean that they are any more unsafe than anyone else. In fact I would even go so far as to say that they are probably more inclined to be safe since they have their childrens safety to think about.

So next time somebody tells an amusing story, either be amused or go away, but don't be a jerk about it.

jcramin, I saw the humor in her comeback and thought it way cool for an 8 yr old. But I do take offense about the EVIL BLACK GUN! I taught mine to be respectful and play nice til I pull the trigger! So far she has listened well (just wish the dog would listed that well). Be a proud father and keep teaching!! ajb

Maybe I just come from a different time or different mentality - When my father taught me how to shoot, and about safety - we had plenty of good times. But if i would have played a "prank" like this on my father - i woulda gotten the back of a hand up side my head - and a pretty lengthy lesson about not messin with other people's guns.

Sinixstar, REMEMBER, my WIFE played the prank on me with my daughter standing there watching. There is no way my kids can get into any of my safes. PLUS my kids know and fallow rules of gun safety very well. That doesnt mean we can have fun with a holstered gun under adult supervision. That may sound bad, but in reality it was very safe and funny as Heck.

Cause that makes it so much better.

Let me ask you a question. If you saw something like this say - at the Range - would it be as funny?

His daughter isn't the one who pulled the prank, the mother did. The daughter only made the statement.

So, because he clearly told us it was his wife who moved the gun, are you saying your father would have given "the back of a hand up side the head" of your mother?

If so, that is spousal abuse/domestic violence and he would be disqualified from owning any gun.

Why not just admit you posted like a jerk and get it over with?
