You must choose one of these 3-which & why?

I want to know what you would choose and why.All would be decent guns but are different in their own way and caliber.The 4583 holds 8 rounds of .45acp has an alloy frame,stainless slide and weighs about 30 oz.The 4046 is all stainless in .40S&W,weighs 38 oz and holds 11 rounds.The Witness is a DA/SA, holds 8 rounds i believe and weighs about the same as the 4046.Give me pros and cons as you see it.This is a general purpose handgun.

I have NO experience w/ Witness firearms, I don't like 40 S&W guns, so if the grip on the 4583 agrees w/ you, I'd go w/ that one

No S&W centerfire auto I've handled has "pointability" in my hands, so rather than go with something that I'm already pretty sure won't suit me, I'll (reluctantly) go with an "unknown," the Witness.

I don't really want to hijack the thread . . . but I don't buy new (post sellout) S&Ws for reasons that have been beaten to death repeatedly in these forums.

Lets see....

The only S&W auto I've ever liked the trigger pull on was a 4053 DOA that someone paid to have hand tuned. Even at that, it was a little long for an auto. Any other DA/SA S&W auto I've held has suffered in comparision to just about anything else I have.

.40 vs .45 vs 10mm -- Don't have a 10mm, kind'a want one. Can shoot loads as mild as a .40 to serious thumpers.

EA because I've held some EAs and they felt good.

EA -- because the only other options are S&W autos. (have I entioned that alreadY)

ps.. don't the EAs hold 10 in either .45 or 10mm?

As a general rule, S&W autos feel like 2x4s in my hand, but I like the feel of the CZ-75; since the Witness is based on the CZ, that would probably be my choice (though I wouldn't necessarily choose it in 10mm).

I see you are branching out into quality...finally... well almost!!!

The one I chose was the 10mm Wittness.
Reasons:

• 1) The first one is a Smith.
  
  2) The second one is a Smith.
  
  3) The last is 10mm.
  
  4) The last one is NOT a Smith!!

I've had terrible luck with S&W semi-autos. Given these choices, I'd RELUCTANTLY go with the unknown....the EAA.

I am not a big fan of S&W autos, and am even less of a fan of DAO guns. Combine that with the fact I have three CZ/clones, I would have to give the nod to the EAA. I have a witness in Super .38 and love it. Top it off with the ability to carry cocked and locked. no contest.

I'd have to go for the EAA, both because I would like a 10mm, and because I just don't like Smith and Wesson automatics. It's certainly not an issue of reliability, but it is one of feel and ergonomics. I just don't like 'em.

I vote the EAA.

Why?

Because I've got one, and I LOVE it.

My only grip is that it's undersprung from the factory. It's got, IIRC, 14 lb springs, but really needs closer to 20 lb. springs.

At first, I was leaning towards the .40 DAO. Upon further review, I must agree, go with the EAA 10mm. Just purchased one myself. In addition, nobody here, myself included, believe's Tropical will pony up $400.00 plus for a handgun. If He does, however, I will personally issue him the 2004 Golden Helwan Award for excellence. Out.

I picked the EAA 10mm because I'm guessing that they're not free for the taking, whichever one you want, but choose one. If I was paying money, I wont pay for anything Snakes & Weasels. Not guns, not handcuffs, not shirts, not hats, not even coffee mugs.

If Snakes & Weasels were to throw The Agreement out the window tomorrow, I guess it would kind of depend on the price. 10mm ammo is a little expensive, and it was never adopted for military service in any great quantities, so its a little harder to find, but I dont like the feel of Snake & Weasel autos. They feel marginally better than Glocks to me. And a Glock is like a brick with a stick pokin out one part of it.

I own an EAA Witness 10mm in Wonderfinish!

I upgraded the spring with one from Wolff and love the pistol! You can keep the .40 S&W, if you want it. I have always been a glutton for, what i view as the "better" (read, more versatile) cartridge.

Good answers.Im a little surprised that the witness is the clear winner.I havent handled S&W autos enough to know whether or not i like their feel.I do have a CZ-75 and like how it feels.I guess it will have to be the witness.

I have had bad experiences with Smith Autos. Good revolvers - Bad autos. Witness in 10mm very good.

I chose from three 1911's.
The Witness it would have....though I'd prefer a .45 version.
But I'll stick with what I got thanks.

I still carry one of the oldest Witness you can find in the country - one of the first 500, and quite possibly the first Witness in 40 in the country, imported under this name. Tanfoglio was making guns when Gaston Glock was in diapers....
I trust this gun with my life every day. It is also officially approved by my Dept as my off duty sidearm. I have had 6 Witness pistols, full size and compact, 9mm, and 40, and all of them have been fantastic, and the olny reason any of them left was for baby food. My wife carries a Witness compact 40 wonderfinish, which BTW is a form of the famed Glock Tennifer finish. 10mm can be loaded to handle anything, and mags are available, plus grips from Hakan, and holsters from Eric. Smith autos have a too-high barrel axis for me, too.

4583, the old Smith DAOs( no 2nd strike) have a very short trigger stroke. It's like an 8 shot K frame : )
