Just for argument's sake, let's hear some nominations and ideally see some pics of which completely civilian rifle you would choose as a battle rifle if circumstances or legislation kept true battle rifles out of reach.

No milsurp anything, nor any civilianized military rifles like a Saiga, no folding stocks or high cap magazines, not even Mini-14s, nothing which is legislated as an evil assault weapon in the gun-unfriendly states, just the ordinary "inoffensive" hunting or plinking rifle that would be a good substitute if SHTF.

Since it's my thread I get to start, and my likely suspects are a Marlin 1894 in .357 Magnum for urban use and a Browning BAR Lightweight Stalker in .243 or .308 Winchester for the great outdoors. If I had to go with just one rifle, then a Marlin 336 in .30-30 Winchester.

Other nominees?

Remington 7615 rifle.

Set up the way most militaries believe is most efficient for a modern combat rifle (detachable box magazines, ghost ring sights, 5.56 mm round.) Only major difference is it is not semi-auto, but pump guns are generaly a close second to semis in the rate of aimed fire possible.

And for those who think they know more than most of the militaries in the world today, including most that have won wars in the last 30 years, the 7600 model comes in .308 caliber:

(Although you may have trouble getting magazines for a 7600 with greater than 10 rounds.)

just a 12 ga. Mossberg 500 until I can take the M16 off of a dead National Guardsman/enemy soldier/etc. if/when given the chance.

Another vote for the Remington 7615. The ability to use AR-15 style magazines is a nice bonus.

And here I thought you were a glider pilot, perhaps one that partakes of the occasional ganja...

I recieved soooo many PM's about it:

1) asking if I used marijuana recreationally

2) asking if I was a pilot

3) asking if I was a pilot that used marijuana while flying a plane

4) telling me I spelled "plain's" wrong" (The movie)

that I decided to clarify it in my sig line.

Sorry to disapoint. Im was (am) a trim/millwork carpenter. :D

So... Mauser, Enfield, Mosin is not allow?

I probably get a CZ 550 in 308, or 30-06. May be 527 carbine.
