Lever action .44 mag. Potent enough to bring down deer sized game at medium range, with ammo capacity greater than the long 30-30 class cartridges.

Winchester Model 1895 Saddle-Ring Carbine in the only caliber, 7.62x54R.
Preferrably with stripper clip guides and the front handguard replaced by a 1913 rail.

Good Question

Remington 7615 rifle.

+1....any of the 76** series of pump Rem rifles; any number of calibers.

Also, a short action, short bolt throw turnbolt, like a Browning A-bolt; perhaps in .243 win.

Also, Marlin levergun in .30-30 win.

Also, sporterized Swiss K31 with a 20" bbl, peep rear sight, buttload of stripper clips - this straight-pull turnbolt rifle is very fast.

Also, of course, the venerable SMLE No. 4, sporterized, in .303 Brit

Also, Steyr Scout or Savage Scout, in 7mm-08 or .308.

Lots of good choices.

There's a lot to be said of the extreme reliability of non-semi-auto repeating rifles.

Steyr Scout? Clearly, some folks are in an entirely different tax bracket. I just can't see spending $1500-$2000 for a magazine-fed, bolt action rifle when for less half that I can get a Savage or Howa or many others, a bipod, and a nice scope and do 99% of what the Steyr can do. Of course, if money is no object...

My running count so far (including multiple votes by the same poster, but not counting firearms that don’t meet the requirements of the original post)…

Lever rifle total 15
(Marlin 7, Win 6)
(30-30 Win 9, .44 Mag 1, .357 Mag 2, other caliber 4)

Remington 76xx pump rifle total 8
(in 5.56 mm 3, in .308 1, other caliber 3)

Bolt rifle total 7
(.308 4, other caliber 4)

Ruger PC-4 1
Browning BAR 2
Other semi-auto 2

Shotgun total 3
(Mossberg 1)

I would go with one of my Remington model 8's or 81's in any caliber, 25,30,35,or 300 savage. They have a 5 round fixed box mag striper clips last round lock back, it has all the makings of a good military rifle but never was.

rem 700 in 7mm mag easy to reach 1000 with that
for something a little closer rem 7400 in 30-06, a ton of power, simi auto, and high caps are available, plus its stupidly simply

Marlin 336, they way mine is et up I have a 3 power fixed scope on it and it has a nice wide field of view and is quick handling.

If not that my 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge loaded with #4 buck or my 20 gauge Beretta 391 loaded the same.
