Here's the thing about the EK knives, the magic (for me) of the Ek is possessed in the WW2 variants.
The trouble and great lengths that he went to get the high quality metal - an incredible endeavor at the time.
The choice of workers he had making the knives.
The lengths he went to to make sure that only servicemen got the knives, they were not for the general public, he required a copy of your military ID and kept them all on file.
It is a miniature saga, and well worth reading up on.
The post war Ek's and the many modern variants are all fine, but, like post-war Fairbairn Sykes daggers, they just don't do it for me at all.
I don't collect historical replicas, in fact I'm more drawn to a salty blade than an unused one.
This is absolutely a subjective point of view and I expect and respect differing opinions.

But this is sort of why the beat up old Ek, in a beat up old M6 scabbard is my fav.

Absolutely.

A fella had this on his table at a gun show some years back.
He had it on top of a case so that it was about eye-level and head out.
I stopped most every time I went by but didn't want to bother him as he was a pal and had given me guilt-level good deals in the past.... Figured I might talk to him at the end of the show - he REALLY liked horse trading too.

Anyhow, 'long about Sunday afternoon, it's gone. I figured I lost the knife but wouldn't feel bad about the price or trade.

Come Christmas, It's in my pile o' gifts from my wife. She'd seen me eyeballlin' it most of the weekend..... She's a keeper.

Wife's not bad either!

Took me years to find the right used sheath. Photos don't do it justice. The weight and balance are excellent and the ram's head is an exceptional palm-stop.

That is a really cool design, did he use a railroad spike to make that? Or was it just some flat stock added to the blade?

Some guys are really talented when it comes to making toys like that. Wish I had the skills and time to do it.

The guy that did the folder that I posted, also finished this blank that I had.

The coating is pretty good also, I've used my 6 to Baton some wood and it barely affected the blade.

I didn't do much, just wanted to test out the blade. I'm sure if you used it on a regular basis, it would probably wear the coating off.

Apparently, I had misspoken earlier when I stated that I had sold my Laguiole knife.

In commenting on Cpl Agarn's post, I experienced considerable seller's remorse.

Then, today, while looking for another knife, I found it, or perhaps another that I had forgotten about.

These are just the most wonderful cheese or steak-knives for polite company. Slashing at my steak in a restaurant with a Strider or Reeves garners looks of confusion, derision and fear. A Laguiole on the other hand; appreciation, adoration and acceptance.;)

Oh happy-day!

OUTSTANDING.

Great example of elegant cutlery.

Another knife bought for me by my wife. Many years ago, she found this in sold old fella's estate sale.

I sure wish I had been able to hear any story he might have had for it back in the day. It's a big ol' beast.

He was the first owner, and seems to still enjoy it. I had him take the photos for me, the knife is currently in HI with him.

I was there last week and forgot to take pics. We cut our visit short by a week and were scrambling to get a flight out.
