So I just found out that there is a online group who have meets and what not called the Zombie Squad http://zombiehunters.org/. OK now I understand that they are stating that their cause is for natural disaster awareness up to zombie outbreak... but really? Zombie outbreak, now I ain't going to say its impossible but I ain't loosing sleep worrying about it either.

Anyhow I thought natural disaster awareness could be a good cause and especially if it ties in self defense preparedness as I see so many people who never think about what if they are in a gas station when some nut job decides to rob it at gun point or even the random burglar that just happen to decide to break into your home for whatever reason. So with my way of thinking in mind I took a little bit of time to look into this Zombie Squad and see what it was about and most of the members I see look like a mix of wanna be rambos and comic-con fans. they even have the comic-con like meets where they dress up like zombies and zombie hunters... I don't know this just floored me for a group that talks about being for the cause of awareness but don't really appear to be your normal survivalists that have some sort of real world experience, back ground and know-how...

Anyone know something about this group to say otherwise... to be honest I don't even know why I am taking time out of my day to write this expect that it floored me that such a group actually exist...

Reply with your outlook on the topic if you care...

They've been around for quite a while.

Seem like a good enough bunch. Should shooters only wear funny vests and shoot at orange birds?

No offense, but: exactly.

What harm does it do you? How is this different than SASS?

Not my thing, but to quote Jefferson, "It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

What you mean good enough bunch? I am not saying anything about what type of people their are just more or less think that its more of just a zombie fan club than a group for awareness cause...

I could be wrong and should never judge a book by its cover that kinda why I posted here to see what others know, maybe even a member reads the boards here and could let me know just what they do besides for the dress up that I see posted.

No offense taken after typing a little I kinda realize the same thing... but at the same time just kinda wonder if there's more to it then what I see. For example if a major earthquake or tornado hits my area are people with ZS logo shirts going to come out of the wood work to help dig through rumble and find survivors or is this just some group that if something they find "cool" such as chemical warfare or something is going to show up trying to give orders on what "needs to be done" cause they saw it in a movie. I don't know...

I think I came across a little more negative then I meant to, its not that I have disdain for them just wonder what its really about. Cowboy Action shooters and War reenactments don't claim to be any more than that, same with the Comic con fans they don't claim to be any more than what the are.

Basically I am just wondering are they just movie fans as they appear or is there more to it than meets the eyes. Also sorry if I offended anyone as that was not my intention.

It looks like a combination of people who are fans of zombie movies/culture who are also trying to make it a little more "real" and adding a public service element. They get to enjoy acting out the entertainment they enjoy, while simultaneously doing something that actually helps. It looks like a good match to me. Each generation is going to approach things a little different. They aren't building bomb shelters to protect against the Red Menace like our fathers did. But at least they found something they enjoy and can turn it into something productive and helpful.

Zombies have become very popular outside of movies and such. There are "zombie crawls" in cities all over the country that are like marathons for disease awareness, but instead of running a marathon, thousands of people dress up like zombies and lurch through a city. The "Zombie Squad" shows up at events like that and takes part as the opposition, but once it's all over they talk about real preparedness like stocking food and medical supplies, but in the guise of it being for a zombie apocalypse instead of a natural disaster. It sounds pretty fun and helpful to me.

do you have as much disdain for Cowboy Action shooters or Civil War/WWII reenactors

No.

But we don't discuss CAS or reenacting in ST&T either... We are here to talk about strategies, tactics and training, not fictional creatures.
