naming your guns

Nope. Never felt the desire to personify inanimate objects with human names or characteristics. Guns, cars, guitars, whatever.

They all just get called by their model or type.

No, but if I did they would be creative names, just like Dog A and Dog B the naming conventions would be Gun A, Gun B, Gun C... Then after 26 I would go to Gun AA, Gun BB, Gun CC.

Seriously, nope I don't have names for my guns.

Ron

I grew up on a farm and always found it silly when people named cattle. Some did though. Ours were named whatever number the tag in their ear said.

I'm the same. Except for Norman. Norman existed about 20 years ago. He was a very slow roping steer. Great training for novice team ropers. But he eventually didn't even go fast enough for that. We had Normanburgers for about a year after that. :D

I've named some of my guns, but mostly just for fun. I have a Finn-captured Mosin that is named Sibelius. I have two VZ-24s that are named Hejduk and Smetana. My 1903 is named Gary. There are more, but its mostly composers, hockey players, or sarcasm. Like my Turkish mauser named Stuffing. (Turkey. Stuffing. See, it's funny. Laugh.)

Ah! Occasionally I run across a gun with a name engraved (or badly etched) on it. Perhaps it is not a prior owner's name; maybe it's the gun's name!

That's going to make me look at engraved guns in a new light. I might even purchase one in that condition if done decently. Just think, I could own a gun named Sheriff Johnson or Deputy Smith. :D

People have been putting names on inanimate objects by the millions. When I was in the Army all our artillery pieces had names. Guns have names and on and on. I love looking at the names every time I go to one of the many Marina's in my area.

People with a lot of imagination. Just would not be the same with No name or just a Number.

Okay, I am going to step out on the lunatic fringe here.

I do not name constructs, that is a form of idolatry.

Names are reserved for the creations of God.

I name my guns after deadly diseases.
Ive got cholera, typhoid, tuberculosis, you get the idea. I call my 22 pistol eczema cause its not terribly deadly. My favorite carry gun has a name too but i cant say what it is here.

Usually I am calling them a name or two when I miss a target. I got one handed down to me with a name though. A 10 GA double barrel of unknown origin called Ol'Thumper. It killed on both ends with magnum loads.

There was a cow my wife and I used to see at a hobby farm we passed pretty regularly. We used to refer to him as hamburger. One day we came by and hamburger was gone. never saw him again.
You may not have recognized him with a piece of cheese on him inside a bun. (cow's aren't "hims" either.) As to the topic: I don't name guns but I called one a name I can't repeat here while trying to reassemble it.

I don’t name guns. Not that I wouldn’t. I’m just not that clever at it.

I did name a couple of pickups I had. One was Whitey, the other was Blue. Can you guess what colors they were?
