1975 - 1976. My sources aren't exact on this revolver but do get you close, sorry.a) caliber - 41 Mag
b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle) - 6"
c) grips shape (round or square) - square
d) number of shots/cylinder bores - 6
e) type of sights.- adjustable rear (for windage & elevation)
f) serial number, and if there is a letter in front of or anywhere near the s/n on the bottom of the grip - N 346056
g) Model number if it is under the crane. - 57
Just picked this up last week - NIB.
.357 Magnum
2 ½”
Round butt
6 shot
Adjustable sights
BPC30XX
M66-2
Thanks.
That makes sense. The Dash 4 was introduced in 1994 so yours was probably one of the last dash 3'sYou're right. I misread the model number. It's a 66-3.
Thanks.
This going to be a thread for those who are looking for a date of manufacture for their S&W revolvers.
We'd need to know :
a) caliber
b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle)
c) grips shape (round or square)
d) number of shots/cylinder bores
e) type of sights.
f) serial number, and if there is a letter in front of or anywhere near the s/n on the bottom of the grip
g) Model number if it is under the crane.
That number, if it is the s/n, should come from the butt of the grip (or under the barrel or face of the cylinder).
A picture or two is worth A LOT of words in this case...

That's cool I appreciate the info, thank you.The M36 left S&W in 1973
The M28 is also a 1973 revolver.
As for the CPD markings, my information tells me there was no special order leaving S&W with CPD markings. They were probably bought from a distributor and marked by the armorer. Sorry I couldn't pin it down further.
