There were 25 shootings reported in Sf. Louis over this last weekend. It dawned on me that the word smithing of the reporting probably has a lasting influence on the psychology of the average viewer.
The shootings were reported on all of the local channels as a drumbeat of “gun violence” - not “human violence”, not “social violence”, not “behavioral violence”, not “cultural violence”, etc - the “gun” is the core word of the cause and by default, eliminates the human source of the outcome.
I guess if it is said enough, in a certain context, at a specific time, worded in a specific manner, anything can become the truth. Most people have such wonderful computers sitting on their shoulders and they just don’t get used - how can something so sophisticated be so easily influenced - sad, sad, sad.
