The Glock is a good pistol for a shooter who is not as dedicated as the 1911 guys.
I disagree. Id say they are the same, and they, and all the others, require the same from you if you want to be good with them.
They all have their idiosyncrasies and minor annoyances, but assuming you have a proper version of the gun (this is directed mostly at the 1911's and somewhat to the Glocks) they all work.
"Proper" versions of the two exceptions above are guns that are built to factory specs, and as originally issued.
The 1911's cant really fit here, unless they are Colts or USGI guns. The bane of the 1911 is, it became popular, and like a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy on a photocopier, things dont do so well down the road.
Box stock Glocks are a lot more reliable then the "improved" versions. Of course, everyone seems to think they know better and they have a credit card and access to the plethora of places on the web, that can help them screw up a good thing. Just like the 1911.
I do not see a lot of Glock Haters, but do see a lot of People who just are ambivalent toward them. Not much feeling one way or the other about them. But many who do not agree with the Glock lovers that they are the best or other guns might be actually better are deemed and labeled as Glock haters for some reason.
Every single year, I keep reading what the fan boys say about them and gets me to thinking maybe I am wrong about them and will take one to the range and shoot against some of my other guns and I always leave not impressed and the urge to buy one will disappear until the next year when I try again.
But I have never left hating the Glock. That has never been the issue. Just not into them, nor are they a good fit nor do I believe they will out last other quality guns. I'm sorry, I wish I could say they are the best period, but just cannot force myself to do this.
The OP asked a question and it would seem it would be open to all to vote on and make a comment for other guns, but you have to be careful of posting. Hate is a powerful word. Again, I do not hate Glocks period. But I do think they are fine guns built with quality. And I think if someone were to purchase one, he would have a good gun which would last a life time just like many other fine guns. I guess that makes me a Glock Hater.
I have or have had at some point, most of the major brands and types of handguns out there. I still shoot a bunch of them on a weekly basis too.
The only ones I really dont like, and no longer have, are the guns that dont work or were very problematical or finicky.
I think whats really going on here is, a lot of people just dont have a lot of actual experience with much at all (and in many cases, even what they have), and really just dont know. Its inexperience and a lacking on their part more than its a problem with any of the guns.
I think if you bothered to spend some time with each, and actualy learned the gun, you probably wouldnt find much wrong with all of them, and of course, youll likely settle on one or two you like the best. Doesnt mean theres anything wrong with the others, and that they arent serviceable.
You always hear people bitch about the silly little things that really dont mean anything, like grip angle or trigger types, etc. If people actually spent some real quality time with any of them, I think they would have a totally different outlook on them, and there would be a lot less bitching.
And, as with most things, the biggest problem will always surface in the end, and its not the gun.
