The Glock isn't the best combat handgun of this era, to me the M9A3 from Beretta has that role, the Sig p22x series a close second.

That said, Glocks are the gift that keep on working. They are best used when as a filler in your gun collecting when you don't know what else to buy. (yes I just implied Glocks are collectible)

I'm sorry but the more I watch people get wrapped around the axle because somebody else likes a different gun than they do the more I'm glad I really don't care.

I've said it before but one of the biggest reasons that I carry a glock is because I can carry it I can shoot it I can use it and be 0% invested in it

Honest question from another guy who never served: do handguns play any sort of role in modern warfare?

With the rise in unconventional warfare handguns are more important than ever before.

There needs to be an option for "All quality handguns pretty much suck equally."

I read comments like this a lot. There is the classic line, "you use your handgun to fight your way to your rifle". But in the real world I've never seen any evidence that a handgun is any less effective than a long gun when used at close range. Sure a rifle is easier to hit with at distance, but handgun rounds from 9mm on up seem to get the job done far more often than not. And sometimes even rifle rounds fail to stop threats.

I think that at one time Glock was the most rugged, reliable handgun ever designed and plenty accurate enough. But there is a lot of competition today including Sig's new M17 and M18. The S&W M&P 2.0 version gets high marks too. To be honest I like the Sig a little better. But it is too early to call it better than Glock.

The 1911 was the best handgun on the field in WW-1. But by WW-2 there were better options.

Best combat handgun of ALL time? I wonder which Military used handguns the most during combat. I would bet many that only were issued the Glock, liked it, and never compared it to others and vice versa. Why would they like one over the other? Shooting, Recoil, or just carrying all day and cleaning. I do not know how one determines any gun to be the best of all time.

The best handgun is a rifle.

That said, I like Glocks very much, they work well for me. If you like them, fine, I don't care. If you don't like them, fine, I don't care. You use what works for you and I'll use what works for me.

You only have yourself to make happy

Plastic guns are for children. No plastic gun, ever, will be collectible. That's how I feel and should have no impact whatsoever on anyone else. More plastic guns for you, everyone is happy.
The best thing about the SIG P320 is that the plastic part (the frame) is replaceable by anyone with $35 and enough mechanical skill to tie their own shoes.

$500 gun that will go 100,000 rounds +, will run dirty, will run steel case crap and cheap magazines are everywhere.

Does any other gun do all of the above?

Good question. I have never shot any gun to 100,000 rds. I have guns I have shot dirty, and run steel case ammo to the tune of thousands of rounds. But have all guns been tested to that degree? I did not know they even tested to 100,000 rds. I did not know that was part of a bid requirement. Has any one soldier ever shot that many rounds in combat?
I do wonder what War fought by Americans actually used a pistol the most in combat? We have only had two World Wars.

Does a sea wiz count?

I don't like Glocks. Not in a critical way. I shoot them Ok, just have to concentrate a bit more.

But....

Ask a non-gun person to name a handgun manufacturer and Glock will be one of two names most likely repeated.

Just marketing, or a better gun?

simple, inexpensive, reliable , tough, accurate.
Many imitators , only one original tactical Tupperware . there are many other guns that can do the same thing but there's only one glock. It's like asking if someone thinks Coca-Cola is the best cola, (of course it is).

Glocks are known to go 100,000+ rounds. The exact number doesn’t matter. The fact that almost nobody will shoot that many rounds through any gun is not the point. The point is anybody that buys a Glock will probably not wear it out even if they try.

I'm not really sure, but I would put my money on counterinsurgency-type wars, like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, rather than massive-scale conflicts like the World Wars.

I dont think its the best combat handgun there ever was but a g19 goes where I do. I think there's a difference between best combat handgun and handgun fully capable of defending myself and/or family God forbid that situation should arise
