- When I was in grade school (bad guys have always existed) a burglar walked into my parents house. My mom was home, alone, and the guy was going for empty houses, effed up (also: peak crime is mostly daytime, not night). Mom told him off then called 911, they caught him a block away, trial, etc. Anyway: Dog who barked at everything totally recognized bad guy so... got under a chair and hid. No help at all.
- One night 15 years ago the (previous) dog comes and noses at me in the bed. What do you want?! Looks longingly. Presume it's what she does, wants to go fight a possum, etc. Tell her to go back to sleep. In the morning: where's the truck? Yeah, dog told me people were stealing it, but uselessly. Same level of alert as everything else she did.
