I've not a lot of experience with .45, but the S&W 4506 I had a chance to use, even though a fairly heavy gun had more recoil than any 9mm I've shot.
I do prefer to use something that allows me to devote more of my attention to the tgt rather rather than dispersing it via the "kick" factor...

Same gun I want to get for my kid (hey I can borrow it too you know ;))
but for now until I get the bucks and find the piece, I'll have to live vicariously through other Sig owners.

A couple weeks ago I tried both of them out and to me the Sig felt better in hand, the trigger was very nice, perceived recoil seemed less than the G17 and I felt more in control and was able to get on target a little quicker.
That being said, I am not a very experienced shooter.

I like trying different guns out for the experience and won't shy away.
However when it comes to something to shoot regularly, I'd rather have something that doesn't bother me.
