Suitable .223 round for home defense?

I think any rifle is a bad idea indoors. If you own "property" like a farm or ranch that's different. But for "home" defense any CF rifle will over penetrate, deafren you with the report, be clumsy when negotiating close quarters like narrow hallways and a long gun is more easily wrested away if...

    What is a 308 fal

chaingunner, Is any gun still legal in CA? The only military style semi-auto rifles not specifically banned by the AWB of 1989 were the M1 Carbine and the M1A1. I do not know why these two were excluded but the FAL was specifically listed. And of course all of the magazines over 10 round...

    Gun Broker Purchasing

I agree that finding the FFL first is wise. Fees will vary and small gunshops, pawnshops and "kitchen table" FFLs are often the cheapest. Keep shipping in mind when bidding. Shipping can be $10-$50 so find out before bidding and add that to the cost when deciding how much to bid. If the...

    $139.99 for a box of 20

I have two rifles that are expensive to feed. One is obsolete and proper cases are about $4 each and the other is a wildcat and these cases cost $2-3 apiece. Both must be handloaded, of course. There's a lot to be said for sticking to regular production calibers.

little girl killed by bear in gun free zone

Bears and big cats are the only land animals that routinely kill (and sometimes eat) people. You never know what might trigger a bear attack, which is extremely rare but horrible when it does occur. Menstrating women have been attacked and the theory is the bears could smell the blood causing...

    Fixed Sights on Single Action

Generally speaking lighter bullets will hit lower. You can try some 200 grain loads but your gun is shooting very high. 12 Inches at 25 yards is WAY high. A taller front blade is needed to lower the point of aim but I have no idea how hard is to replace the blade on your gun. I would contact...

    S&W 25-5

I think the 25-5 is in .45 Colt, not ACP, isn't it? I think that some of the early guns suffered inaccuracy due to excessively oversized chambers, or something like that. Hopefully yours will shoot OK for you. I have lightly polished rust freckling with heavily oiled very fine steel wool...

    Moving Ammunition

Ammo is not considered hazardous and requires no special handling although the USPS refuses to mail it. Your shipper is either mistaken or just lying to explain why he won't take it. How much ammo you got? If paying by the pound might be better to shoot it up or sell it rather than ship it...

    Remington SRS double rifle

The Spartan double rifle has been advertised for a couple years now but nobody seems to have actually found one for sale or even seen one.

    S&W Model 29: should I buy it?

$200 plus $300-$400 to rebuild and refinish leaving you with a gun worth $200-$300 as a refinished and rebuilt shooter. Or just buy a nice one for $500-$600. You decide. I wouldn't touch this clunker. Unless the gun is free these deals are never good deals.

    Best CA rifle?

If you plan to be CA legal then you are limited to 10 rounds. In this case I see no reason to spend $1400 for an M1A. Or even $500 for Mini 14. The 7.62x39 is cheaper and more useful than the .30 Carbine so the choice bcomes obvious. Being on a budget only helps cement the case for the SKS...

Baby Shower Turns Violent - Be Prepared at all times!

Model 27: hammer down on loaded cylinder?

Prices in CA are skewed because of the law forbidding import of unlisted guns. A nice 5" 27-2 (1976 would be a 27-2) in most of America is worth $450-$550. In CA I would add $200 at least due to scarcity. But you said it's rusted. Bad news. How bad? Honestly, to me a rusted gun is worth zero...

    C&R at gunshops and gunshows?

Careful about NJ. I think that state doesn't recognize C&R so you might not be able to buy guns in that state using it. I know that NJ residents don't bother getting a C&R because the state only allows 001 FFLs to receive guns from out of state so the C&R is useless. CA only allows long guns to...

    45 Colt carbine

I believe that Taurus makes a clone of the Win M92 in .45 Colt. In fact, I have one with a 16" barrel. Interams used to import some models from Brazil, likely the same guns now sold by Taurus, and they may be around used. There are Italian clones but they are pricey IMO.
