Hi everyone, flexible here. I am doing some long range planning. I will be picking up a used Browning Citori in 28 gauge this week for my granddaughter. She is only 10 and already 4 ft 6 but slender. I hope to give her the Browning in 2 years for skeet shooting but I know she will need an adjustable comb & recoil pad.
Any suggestions? Graco? send to them, try to install myself?
any ideas will be welcome.
thanks

Graco is all I have installed. They are very nice and work well. Whether you can do the install yourself depends on your skill level and equipment owned. At the minimum you will need a band saw to cut the comb and LOP, a drill press with vise, and a grinder to fit the butt plate. You will also need quality wood bits of the proper sizes, Brad point or Forstner. No spade bits, please.

but I know she will need an adjustable comb & recoil pad.

How do you know that, especially in two years?
Remember, there are a LOT of different things that go into a good gun fit. I would recommend getting a copy of the Stockfitter's Bible, by Rollin Oswald (available on Amazon)

Remember to factor in cast, pitch, toe in or out, LOP, drop at heel, drop at comb, and one a lot of folks do not consider - thickness of the comb.

One other thing if you plan to cut the stock is the pitch; it most likely will NOT be a straight cut but an angled one to get the proper pitch.

Thanks, I didn't even think that it might fit her now! I'll see if the gun store has the 'Stockfitters Bible' on hand when I pick up the Browning, if not i'll order from Amazon. Recently saw the YouTube on how to tape a soda straw to the rib to make sure the gun mounts properly.

You have some good places, even in NJ, to get things checked out................Griffin and Howe in northern NJ near NY and M&M in southern NJ are two good places (G&H gets high marks from everyone)

Picked up the Browning yesterday but it turned out to be a Citori Lightning with screw in chokes and it actually fits me! Oh, Oh, I might have to start looking for an old Remington 1100 20 gauge youth model for my granddaughter. I did get the Stockfitters Bible' and started reading it, it should make me better shooter.
thanks

You are planning ahead!
Why dont you try to find a spare stock to shorten? You can saw it off, then add it back in stages. The days of youth between 'old enough to shoot' and 'full grown' are few. At that point, put the original back on.

Good idea, I'm kicking myself, I had an opportunity last year to buy a used Remington 1100 in 20 gauge with 2 stocks - one youth & one adult and it was only $400. Maybe try to find a Berretta Silver Pigeon 1 in the 'baby frame' and 28 gauge. It should fit my grandaughter
thanks again
