Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph

MidwayUSA refuses to send the Garmin unit to Alaska for some reason.

Does anyone know of a retailer who doesn't have ridiculously stupid policies?

I got mine from Midway, their site does say this though. Maybe if ya call em you can get it ground shipped.

"Product regulated by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and cannot be shipped via air shipping methods. DOT-Regulated product quantities and restrictions may limit available ground shipping methods."

The thing is, most stuff doesn't come up here via air freight, and they should know that. I have a lot of stuff shipped up here via UPS ground with no problems. Unfortunately they don't give that option.

When I've called them in the past I just got some millennial idiot who actually thought Alaska was a foreign country.

What's incredibly stupid is that there is no reason whatsoever that this unit can't be shipped by air. At its core, it's nothing more than a 24 GHz radio with some flash memory and other minor circuitry. Even if they object to the battery, we get far more hazardous materials shipped up here by air cargo every single day.

Sorry for the rant. I think MidwayUSA is dead to me now.

Is the price down to $250, yet?
Pretty close to it. Saw a private party ad for $585 delievered the other day. Seems they ordered from two different businesses and both have them in stock. Rather than cancel, the seller was passing on the sale price to whomever.

Just back from the range. Haven’t processed the data yet, but no discernible difference in Xero performance with the Gray Ops cover on or off. I was shooting factory 6.5 Grendel ammo.

Still have not got to the range yet but I did another garage session this time comparing the new Garmin to the old Shooting Chrony.

With the old Red Rider the two units were within 1% with the Garmin measuring ~3 fps faster, on average, than the Chrony

I broke out the old Hatsan Model 125 break barrel spring gun and bump the velocity up to just shy of super sonic and the agreement in the data got better for the most part.

With two or the three pellets I tried the average difference between the two units was .21% (Winchester), and .35% (Crossman). For some reason it struggled with RWS pellets and that was 1% difference. With all three pellet types the difference was the Garmin recorded, on average, a slower velocity.

For some reason the Garmin really struggled with the RWS pellets, missing roughly 1/3 of them fired. I switch to Winchester pellets and it went 10 for 10 no problem. Finally I switch to Crossman and it again missed a few but not nearly as bad as the RWS. Again conditions were pretty horrible for a radar the pellets were passing within a foot or so of the front of the garage fridge about half was to the target plus a heap of metal clutter on the wall around the backstop. So I don't blame the Garmin for this, in fact I think the tough conditions speak well of the unit. I am pretty sure a LabRadar would have faired far worst in those conditions.

I did have the Garmin not save two strings. Honestly I am not sure if the unit errored or if I fat fingered the controls but two times I thought I had select End String only to have the new string saved to memory with zero shots recorded in it. Not sure if it was me or the unit I will keep an eye on that and see if I can replicate it in the future.

Is it the battery? I’ve had trouble shipping some stuff there with batteries. And midway shipped a scope to me differently than anything else due to battery for the reticle.
ETA: posts aren’t showing up on my device for some reason. The one from Tuesday showed up 6 minutes ago. So disregard my redundancy

I received mine from Brownells Thursday, ordered it before they sent out the notice saying they had them. I won’t share the price except to say it was less than anyone else with dealer discount and Edge shipping.

@irishlad, like @mcb I wasn’t able to get to the range yesterday. So I tested it in the back yard with an air pistol. Just a few shots, and it seems to have worked fine with the cover installed. It didn’t occur to me to try it without it and compare performance.

Thanks for the heads up on these. Ordered mine yesterday. Suppose to be here Friday.

Li-ion batteries have been known to catch on fire. I'm not sure how they are regulated, but that is probably the reason.
I cannot get a lithium battery or a flashlight with a lithium battery shipped to my po box, so I have to get them sent to work, or make sure it goes ups or fedex and leave the gate open for them

Brief range report. On Saturday I was able to run the Garmin with my PSA AR in 6.5 Grendel. Never missed a shot. I tried it with and without the Gray Ops bump cover in place; no discernible difference. I intentionally set the unit between me and a guy to my immediate (and I do mean immediate) right. The Garmin picked up both shots. Since his velocities were over 3,000 fps, it was easy to delete his shots from the string. We tried it with a suppressed AR pistol shooting sub-sonic .300 Blackout; the unit did NOT pick up the shots until we reset it to read pistol velocities.

Data for the Hornady Black 123 grain ELD Match from my 20-inch barrel:
Count: 80
Average: 2,475.2
Max: 2,501.7
Min: 2,448.3
Spread: 53.4
Std Dev: 12.7

Now I have good baseline and some new once-fired brass. The app is cool. I didn't mess with it until I got home. When I turned on the unit and started the app, they paired quickly and transferred the data from the unit to the app. Inside the app, I simply saved the data file to my Dropbox and then opened the .csv file in Excel. Slicker than snot.

ETA: Already sold my LabRadar.

Shipping can be a hassle for me sometimes as well, we don't get home delivery mail. PO Box at the Post Office only.

I wish Labradar well, but I fear the LX is too little too late. They let Garmin steal a march on them, and I doubt they'll be able to catch up. Garmin has greater staying and pricing power.

For once in my life I’m not 2 years behind the curve having ordered my Garmin from Amy Bruno yesterday. Interesting is that Bullet central wouldn’t take my money over the phone, Amy had no problem at all.
I’m looking forward to having a reliable Chronograph a bit handier

About 3,000 new gun owners are born every. single. day. There are at least a dozen chronographs on the market, there's plenty of room for competition.

Caldwell has one coming out, looks to be like the lr. It's under new at the top
