____ Bureau of Corrections or something similar or possibly a parole office in a small agency. Ask the seller where they got it. A lot of law enforcement trade ins these days for modern tupperware semi-autos. But that revolver is just as good and effective for its use as ever!!!
PS: A lot...
I was in a LGS yesterday, simply to pick up a box or two of .32 S&W WADCUTTER for plinking. The store was nearly bare, except for a few well used long guns and a few cheap versions of mediocre tupperware pistols. We joked a little that we once thought that Oh-Bummer was the world's greatest...
This one isn't that much newer than your break-open S&W, but this little .32 S&W Long is made with the newer S&W-style frames of the early 1900s and forward in history. Mine was made in 1916, and has the basic single and double-action pulls still in use today.
It has the smaller frame...
I LOVE the model 625. It is the most satisfying and fun to shoot of any revolver one shoots! I sold off my 5' Model 625-4 and miss it dearly. But I will never sell my 1980-made S&W Model 25-2. It is a little earlier big S&W .45 ACP revolver in .45ACP. Made for accuracy competition, it came...
This one:
Especially with the new front sight on it now . . .
It started out as a 6 1/2" .45ACP target competition revolver and became the perfect "fighting" handgun, IMHO. IF the bad guy grabs the barrel, he'll let go quick as the front sight (filed razor sharp) get ripped from his hand...
Good luck with your purchase. Whatever it is I recommend you get your best bottom line price on one pistol and then ask for a three-gun discount, since price is paramount, on either brand/model.
That being said, I strongly recommend you avoid FMJ ammo for self defense, and especially in a 9mm...
I've been using Hogue "Rubbers" for competition and practice for years now on my various S&W revolvers.
However, I started deer hunting back in the '90s mainly with my S&W 29-5 6" .44 magnum w/1st gen. Bushnell Holosight, and discovered that it shot really comfortably with the Hogue wood...
Yeah Billyzz, but what year? LOL
I've got a 3" Model 65 for $235 . . . but that was in 1990. The good thing is this, with the prices of the S&W vintage revolvers only going up, up, UP it is correctly said you didn't pay too much for it sometimes, you just bought it a year early!
I've had two...
Agreed. It is a 5th change. Here's mine, from 1916. It is definately a "shooter" but one that seems to have always been taken care of pretty good.
I just took it to the range last Saturday to celebrate its 100th birthday. Still a sweet shooting little I-frame, as you'll see.
When one's life is on the line, it is apt to happen at night. There's nothing positive to gain by shooting a flamethrower round. It won't impress the person attacking you, for all he's thinking about is surviving too. You'll just blind yourself so your eyes can't adjust for a while . . . and...
Three tips:
1. Money is tight, and you need to shoot a LOT to be good . . . so go with a .22 auto. The ammo is always the most expensive part of buying/using a gun. Put the money in lots of cheap .22LR ammo.
2. You'll never be a good pistol shot until you learn NOT to flinch . . . so don't get...
Yes, a LEO died years ago in a drug deal gone bad. It was in the gun rags at the time.
The LEO was working undercover and something went wrong when he was talking to his "dealer" When he saw the bad guy go for his gun the officer quickly drew his 1911 but failed to wipe off the safety. He...
Get someone to load your LCR next time you are at the range, so that you do not know when you will encounter a live, or an empty chamber. Really focus on that front sight in its notch, and keep looking at it without blinking when the revolver goes off. It can really help to have someone...
A 1980-made S&W 25-2, a moon clipped .45ACP target revolver with its 6 1/2 barrel shortened to 3 1/4." Back in the day, S&W was unresponsive to the demand for a revolver like this, so many gunsmiths solved that problem quite well!
This custom revolver has an AMAZING trigger job, both single...
Both are wonderful handguns; a great 1911, and the legendary 25-2. Some of the 25-2 years measure with larger throats than expected. IIRC, the later years had the tighter throats.
Mine came from later years (a 1980) and it is a tackdriver, well equal to my 625-4 with a 5" barrel BUT . . ...
The Shield 9mm is a fantastic little pocket rocket that's a pussycat for anyone to shoot. I highly recommend them, and carry one quite often. I'll eventually drop in the Apex trigger and put night sights on it, but that's just me and personal preference. Right out of the box though, it is a...
I have both J-frames (steel and Airweights), as well as a 9mm Shield. ANY will make a great little concealment weapon.
My "always" (always in the pocket) handgun is an Airweight. Nothing firing a serious round conceals as well in a pocket, IMHO. I love revolvers and feel totally comfortable...
