    45 Colt shot shells...

What's their useful range out of a 5.5" rifled barrel revolver? What kind of spread pattern is there? Are they suitable for li'l critters like rabbit and smaller fowl and suchlike? I'm wondering if it's worth slipping a few into the cartridge pouch along with the critter loads.. Thanks. :)

Savage 1907 Bullet Stuck, failure to extract

If there's still a live round in there um... yeah. Take it to a gunsmith. Verrrry carefully. (edit, if I misunderstood and you have a projectile lodged in the barrel and a spent case locked in the action, you might be able to pull the bullet with one of those worms for black powder arms)

    Civil Defense Rifle

What USMC Tanker said. Actually, the DCM/ODCMP is a pretty darn good model of the same - sell the govt's cast offs for a song, then use 'em for civilian education and competition. Prolly though these days the ideal would be using surplused M16A1s and A2s in something resembling 3-gun...

    Rugers, "gunfighter grips" and recoil?

The one problem I have with my (pre-New) Vaquero is that the grips are awful fat on the bottom, and tend to crowd all my fingers up towards the top. How do the slimmer "gunfighter grips" work for those of you that have them, and do you find a difference with felt recoil? (Think heavy 45 Colt...

Who makes a bolt action centerfire rifle with iron sights?

Personally, I'd just go for an already sporterized mil-surp, There were some lovely ones done with superb aperture sights in the post-war years. I'd bet you could find a .270 Springfield without much trouble at all, given the tastes of the day.

    Springfield Scout or Socom or....

...covered. From an interest/collecting standpoint - well that's just entirely personal preference. Personally I'd rather have an M1A derivative* than any AK on the planet, but in this case it pretty much comes down to your taste. Heck, get a Brown Bess and you can do a "The Second Amendment...

Does anybody make a SA with octagonal barrel?

sounds perfectly reasonable. You might be able to tweak a Remington barrel to fit: http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_434_443_444&products_id=4233 But you're prolly better off buying an octagonal barrel blank from one of the muzzle loader supply houses (Dixie Gunworks...

    "Cowboy" .45 SAA Questions

For what it's worth Mr. Murdock, I'd consider the historical inaccuracy of a coil handspring and wire bolt/trigger spring worth it. I'm a sucker for historical accuracy as much as anyone, but constantly replacing those tiny little leaf springs, especially on the Italian clones, is a pain in the...

cartridge loop buttcuffs - what are the options?

I may just end up making my own, but I'm curious if anyone makes a cartridge loop buttcuff that - 1. Will fit a Winchester 1892 pattern rifle 2. Is made of leather 3. (Preferably) has a flap over the cartridge loops 4. Will hold .454 or .45 Colt cartridges such that the projectile...

45 Colt Big ol Critter loads - weights and measures?

...I see "animal" loads online in all manner of bullet weights and suchlike. So for maximum penetration with as little punishment on my end as possible*, should I lean towards a lighter projectile or a heavier one? Any favorite recipes I should work from? Thank you kindly! -K *yeah...

    Shortened my 1851 Navy

neat! For what it's worth, the old timers would sometimes make front rifle sights by cutting off a section of an old silver dime or quarter.. I reckon then soldering it on?

    The face of RKBA

nice image, looks like a good kid. :) first layout is better. I get the point of normalizing EBRs - makes sense I think to put your focus there. I think Nem's just getting impatient for his new Marlin to show up. :p

Ruger single actions - what can interchange?

Most particularly, will a new Vaquero hammer, with some kind of half cock notch, interchange in an old Vaquero? What about an Old Army - provided the "nose" is ground off and the hammer face rehardened if necessary, is the hole in the hammer the right size and place for the pins the New...

Opinions Please (III) Ruger Single Six 22 (I'm a newbie remember..)

To sort of back up Sistema there, I do have my granddad's (old model) single six and it's still running strong. Great little .22. :)

picture request : single action size comparison..

Can anyone who has some of the following post some comparison pictures, so far as size and bulk and weight go? I'm particularly interested in how some of the "heavies" like the FAs compare as "packing guns" to the smaller SAA models. Basically, I'd like to find something as close to an...
