I had the same zip code and county situation and could not resolve before the deadline, so I submitted with comments regarding county. I have had a few people in the phone discussing without resolution.
Got a contact for who you resolved this with?
Just adding results to close this out.
I used the U die and factory rcbs expander.
I noticed slightly different sizing pressure, but really no felt changes to the expanding or seating operations.
Prior non U test yielded up to .010” set back on a dummy round.
With U die and 200 gr Xtreme...
I agree!
I would argue that I know how to load pistol ammo. My issue is the use of range brass and 451 plated bullets.
Like CQB said. “Chicken soup”
Even if it does absolutely nothing, it adds no time or harm to the process. It may however stop a set back and me blowing my face off.
Agree I could get by without it. I have done several set back checks on 5 different projectiles now. It happens. Do it 10 times in a row and you will pop the bullet back in the case.
Mixed brass give me very inconsistent seating, flaring feel and I want that extra consistency y.
I’m going to...
Circling back in this. I did a polish job on the breach face and made some minor adjustments to the extractor as prescribed above.
I just ran 130ish rounds with only one minor hiccup on a sub par mag.
I would say I just need to shoot it in shape now and it should get better with some wear.
CQB.
I had concerns about setback and I do not see any harm in standardizing with the undersize die. It may wear and work brass quicker, but I’d rather have the neck tension.
I could get by without it and be cautious of chambering the same round multiple times, but I’d rather change this...
I know the proper answer to this question, but would you expect a proven load to change when switching from a standard to undersize die.
I wouldn’t expect any more variation than I already have with range brass.
Of course I will run a handful thru the gun before I load 500.
I reassembled and function tested a single round per mag. Had 1 stick and got a few more pictures. The problem definitely lies between the breach and extractor.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I cleaned up rather than polished the extractor. My breach face is not super smooth, but not much I can do about that? Hopefully get a few rounds down range tomorrow and see if function improves.
A brief back story.
RIA GI full size 45, that has had a overhaul on parts.
Prior to my completion of this gun it cycled really well if it was sprung properly with the right ammo. The usual feed issue was the classic “nose dive”. I had replaced everything except the frame, slide and barrel...
I’m guilty of picking up nearly everything I come across. I pitch the scrap and give away what I can’t load for. In some cases I will save the brass, buy the dies and then the gun. Lol
Its rare to find much more than Reg Joe pistol rounds anymore.
Murf
Can’t say I did have an issue with TG, but I didn’t do any experimenting. I ran around 1000 rounds of 230 FMJ with TG without issue.
I was just using the last of my stores before I started load workups with HP38.
My LGS has other options, but HP38 seemed like a good one stop shop for...
Shot about 100 rounds of 45 at the indoor range. I usually lose some brass and pick up some others during each session.
I was sorting this evening and found about 30 of these TZZ and TZZ Match 85 casings.
WOW!! This is the worst stuff I have ever seen fired. Fatigue, cracks etc. Luckily...
I have been reading on the subject and that makes the most sense.
The cases are a sooty mess, but I’m running HP38 and it’s bad anyway.
I guess this is the price you pay for mousefart loads.
