    One solution...

I've posted about this before, though it was a while ago. I have a tactical problem with my house.... a glass front door. Bummer for smash-in home invasions. Also a bummer as for a long time I had nothing to cover it with and you could see in the house, but at night, couldn't really see out to...

"Gernade" and other terminology pet peeves

I'm not really stirring the pot so much as trying to standardize our etymology :) Ok, so I'm stirring the pot. Anyhow, at least 5 times in the last 2 days I've seen people spell grenade as "gernade". That ranks right up there on the skin-crawling chart as nukular and clip vs. magazine. Any...

    Walther PPK in 9mm Kurz

Can anyone shed any insight into when the PPK was first offered in 9x17? IIRC the PP date was 1921 and the PPK 1939 or so, but was the 9x17 chambering offered from the start?

    7.62x38R, aka Nagant Revolver...

...does anyone know where I can lay hands on a cartridge dimension drawing? I have an idea... which involves either taking a.32ACP M1895 Nagant replacement cylinder and boring it to .32 H&R Magnum, or devising a "sleeve" to locktite or burnish into the original cylinder, more likely the former.

Not a bad idea for a first project, but...

...I'd like to build a small, single shot pocket gun, something fairly compact that I could use for, well, a pocket gun. I'd like to make the bore axis as low as possible, just for the idea's sake of it, and what I'm thinking is that if I make this striker fired, and use a rimfire round, I can...

Do I get to brag yet?

As of the day before yesterday, I'm the newest member of the cult that is Coal Creek Armory :) It's nice to work at a gun shop / firing range, instead of just reading about all this stuff online and dreaming  I figure, I've book-smarted up about all I can stand, it's time for some...

    Source for .38S&W - .380/200 - .380 Webley

So, I found out that my roommates home defense is a Webley Mark IV in .38 S&W... and i figure I'd lend a hand and such, as I typically keep *my* home defense weapons locked and/or in places obvious and easy to get to for me but not others. Anyhow, i found the current loadings, the 145gr...

    Ejector rod on a S&W 66-1

I'm planning far ahead, but what is involved in changing out the ejector rod on a Smith and Wesson 66-1? I don't even have the pistol yet but when I handled it I noticed the checkering was munged up a little and I want to pristine it up a bit.... well, that and rods are $9 so i figured why not...

Just plunked down deposit on my first revolver...

I'm excited :) I went to the E.TN THR shoot at Coal Creek Armory sunday, and noticed some very nice prices on a case of S&W revolvers. A little waffling and I decided that I was going to come back wednesday (debt sucks) and drop a deposit on a blued 19-4, at least I think that's what it was...

    New house, wiring idea

I was thinking about this reading another thread on a tactical situation... What would be the merits of wiring a house to where there was a single, overriding "on/off" switch for every light in the house? Have the switch in the master (safe) bedroom or other safe room where it's easy to start...

    First time detail stripping anything....

...and it just *had* to be my overengineered Walther P22 :) Why did I detail strip it? Because Walther apparently lubes their pistols by dunking them in 20W50 equivalent mineral oil, wiping off the outside, then boxing and shipping. Add to that sloppy mess of lube, something like 800 rounds...

Let the collecting begin! (In 6-8 weeks)

Woohoo! I just sealed the envelopes on my form 7CR (with payment) and the copy to go to the sheriff's office. How long are these things taking nowadays? I suppose I also need to find out where to get a bound book... and are there storage requirements?

Letting my mind wander to what could be....

A couple projects ran fleeting through my head earlier today... First was how to convert a CZ52 roller lock mechanism into a carbine. 7.62x25 out of a 16" barrel would be "a good thing" :) Of course, I'd "stretch" the mechanism a little in the vertical direction to get rid of the groove in...

Woohoo! Finally got some range time....

...and it was good. I'd been looking forward to it since I'd made a spring change in my CZ75, I'd thought the factory spring had gotten a little light (10.5 pounds "tested") and stuck a Wolff 20# in it's place. I also had and have some bad habits to work on. The parallelogram and weaver...

    OTC Drugs and shooting skills

Well, I went to an allergist for the first time in my life yesterday. During the testing (at which my back lit up like a christmas tree, golf-ball sized welts that had the nurses and doctors *apologizing*, even though only one spot actually itched) we started talking about the over the counter...

Testing a recoil spring the low-tech way?

Is there a simple way to check the weight on a recoil spring, like maybe pressing down on the spring (over a guide rod, of course) with the end on a bathroom scale? Precision isn't terribly important.... I think the spring in my CZ75 has gone kaput (extremely heavy recoil, bad muzzle flip, slide...

    Went shooting saturday, some observations...

Went out to guncraft saturday with my entire "arsenal"... decided to write down some mental notes to get any feedback. Overall: I've still got a flinch, but not as bad. I'm thinking too much when I have a weapon in my hand. I also had the shakes pretty bad and my hands were sweating. Allll...

    What's your favorite target?

There's a great selection, so I was interested in what you all use and the different advantages/disadvantages. I've typically used a sheet with targets and shoot 7/15 yards until I improve (lots of practice necessary). If I wanted a challenge I'd tape up a 3x5 index card with a blue dot drawn...

    Guncraft in Knoxville, TN

Just wondering who shoots here.... I know there are quite a few firearms enthusiasts from Knoxville on this board and others, and I often wonder if by some extension I know the guy in the next lane. I'm the guy with the CZ75 Compact (and now walther p22 and CZ52) who shoots the pentuple...
