I appreciate the input there, 1911 guy. Only thing is..........the 1 HP machine is a lathe, not a mill, so the figuring is entirely different. More to the point is that it's not a simple connection with a motor and switch; it's a multi-speed machine with a great deal of its own capacitors and relays.
Could probably reverse engineer the circuitry and calculate loads, but much easier to just try larger capacitors . The 330V 145 MFD units are holding up just fine.
Anyhow, little more progress tonight. Got the dust cover done. I suppose I could have made dies and crushed sheet metal in my 20 ton press, but I felt the better route was to mill this also. Piece of 1/4" 4140 chromoly, milled down to 0.025", with the detent housing machined into it. The detent itself is a piece of 0.067" drill, rounded and with a flat cut, a piece of 0.039" steel acting as the retaining roll pin. It quickly became evident that the detent pin was going to wear down the 6061-T651 pocket pretty quickly, so I drilled it and installed an 0-80 socket head, then did a little dremel work on the head to make it accommodate the pin.
Yes, it's a little large, as is the port. Necessary evil, given the cartridge dimensions.
