I got a bunch of. 30 cal 100 grain Hornady projectiles. A little light for me but can't beat the price - free. The only .30 cals I have are a 300 Blackout AR and .300 Savage Remington 81. Anyone ever load either with 748 Win., 5744 or 4227? I ask for these 3 since I already have some and don't want to have to buy any others right now. Just want for plinking at 100 yards.

Lighter than I load 300BO. Even my subs are 150grn.

Good plinking bullets for .30 Carbine though. If you were near me, I would definitely be thinking about what I had to trade....
Yup. 150s for me mostly. Works well in my 300 savage to so its nice to usee one for both.

Loading Hornady .30 cal ammo with 100 grain bullets sounds interesting. While this may be a bit of a lighter load for you, using the Win 748, 5744 or 4227 powders you already have is a great plan.
If you are shooting at 100 yards, the powders you choose should be up to the task. But as always, it's important to do your due diligence on loading recommendations and make sure they suit your needs and equipment.

I've loaded some Hornady VMax 110's in 300BO. 19 grains of H110 with an OAL of 2.050 sends that little plug at 2383fps. Not a pretty group however, about 2.5-3 MOA.

Hodgdon has 300 Savage load data for a Speer 100 and 748, but speeds seem more than appropriate for a short little half jacket bullet.

For 300 BO, I was surprised to find so little load data for standard 110 or lighter bullets.

The Hodgdon load data for a 110 Vmax with IMR 4227 is 19 start and 20 max with both loads showing compressed. Quickload shows the 2.050 COAL as giving a 0.237" seating depth. Using the same seating depth and the same charges should be safe. The listed load range has a decent chance of cycling an AR action.

Quickload says the 5744 is probably a little closer to optimum than 4227 for a 100 gr in the 300 BO. With a 125 gr bullet, Hodgdon data says the max is compressed. As expected Quickload says that max will be compressed with the 100 gr bullet. A starting load with say 95% fill might be a good place to start.

I have a fun load for my 300 BO using 110 gr 30 carbine bullets and 18.5gr of H110/296. Awesome little plinker for me out to about 250-300 yards.

I don't see those being an issue in a 300 BO bolt rifle but in an SLR that exposed lead point might be an issue? Might leave lead deposits on the feed ramps possibly?

That would be cool to play with though for sure...those loaded up with some Bluedot or Trailboss...very neat...
