10mm 1911

I had a 1006 as it was my first introduction to the 10MM. Definitely a tank, and felt like in on my hip humping hills in Northern Arizona. Sadly I traded it away.

Yeah, that M1066 is an old school 10mm beast. I’ve handled and shot all the S&W 10XX models except for the very rare 1046. The DAO 1086 just never suited me. I’m a TDA/SA guy.

I own a 1076 and a 1006 and still occasionally shoot them. The 5” 1006 is actually lighter than my 5” Sig P220 Match Elite, and the Smith mag holds one round more of Best Meter than the Sig.
But you gotta admit, the 1086 DAO is probably the absolute best DAO trigger I've ever pulled!

Norma loaded - and currently other makers using special hybrid powders that didn’t exist in the ‘80s (e.g., Underwood) load - the 10mm to CIP pressures, not SAAMI specs.
?
10mm SAAMI MAP is 37500 pizeo psi.
10mm CIP Ptmax is 2300 bar = 33359 psi.

I am sure procedures and equipment differ but it is hard to see them making a CIP load heavier than SAAMI.

But you gotta admit, the 1086 DAO is probably the absolute best DAO trigger I've ever pulled!
True. I’ve shot a few 3rd Gen DAOs, including the 1086, and the pull-thru on the trigger was better than the DA pull of most revolvers except maybe ‘tuned’ ones.

Well, if he wants American-made, the best, most durable all-steel 10mms are the S&W 10XX-series guns.

Hard to argue with that…my 1006, 1066, and 1076 are great guns. Very reliable.

That said, my Springfield Ronin in 10mm was great out of the box.

My Springfield Range Officer Elite Operator 10mm had some feeding issues out of the box. Very sharp edge to the chamber at the top of the ramp and rounds were getting stuck halfway in the chamber during normal cycling. American Eagle less than S&B, but it was an issue. Put the tiniest of radius polishing on that edge. About 0.25mm. Worked great after that.

My Dan Wesson Razorback was a reliability nightmare that ended up going back to Dan Wesson as the slide kept jamming on the frame. Galling of Stainless slide on Stainless frame, I believe, was the issue. They didn’t say but they also didn’t charge me for the work. They fixed the slide issues but it still had feeding problems. Wilson Combat magazines fixed that. Beautiful gun. Sweet trigger. Very accurate. Took months to get it right.

So, for a good 1911 10mm out of the box?

The Ronin.

So, three months later… @Barry the Bear - what did you choose? How do you like it?
