10mm bliss

OP, that M610 is HOT HOT HOT!!! :D

Is that a pre-lock model? It's GOREOUS, and looks super good with the 5" tube. I like the wood grips but if it was my gun, I'd put some Pachmayr Presentations on it as I don't like finger groove grips (none of them fit my hands).

You can use 10mm in moon clips and 10mm is more powerful than .357 magnum by a small amount.
The problem is that the 10mm isn't more "powerful" than the 357mag, not even close. People typically get caught up in ME numbers, and that's a serious mistake with the 10mm. I can load old tech 158gr JHPs from Nosler, Remington and Winchester to a modest 1500+fps and get excellent expansion and ~18" of soft tissue penetration. Load a modern tech 155gr Gold Dot or XTP to 1500+fps and the bullet will blow up, giving you ~7-8" of penetration, if you're lucky.

I prefer bullet effectiveness over ME numbers any day of the week. FWIW, 158gr 357 caliber bullets have the sectional density of 10mm/200gr bullets.

The 10mm and .357 are nearly identical in performance, the 10mm having caliber size advantage and the .357 having sectional density advantage. I used to have a S&W 610 and it shot well, but it felt like way too much gun for the 10mm, an N frame just seemed big to me. A GP100 sized 10mm would feel more natural I think.

Sorry for the slow response but to answer some questions about the GP100. The .38 Special version is the exact same frame and cylinder as the .357 Magnum version. It was a run Ruger made for security guards in NY City that are not allowed to use .357 Mag for some stupid reason. I chose the .38 Spcl version because it had a 3 inch barrel already which was the length I wanted and saved the cost of shortening a 4 inch barrel for $225. It also had adjustable sights that I wanted. The conversion is $650 and slab siding the barrel was $115 (the slabside is now $125.00 on his web site).

I am having it made because the 10mm is my favorite caliber and since I will be turning 50 next year by the time it is finished it will be a birthday present. It will be my first custom revolver and one I have lusted after it for a long time. I have bought a few Shiloh Sharps rifles so I am familiar with the waiting game for a quality product.

I do reload and cast bullets also thanks to the Sharps, a .480 Ruger, .45 Long Colt, and .44 Mag. I don't have a mold for the 10mm but plan on getting a 220 gr WFN LBT style mold.

In regards to the 610 I took off the factory combats to keep from damaging them and put on a sett of VZ Grips. They are almost e exact same size and I think they look great on it. Here is why I love the 610: image_zpsxdev8tks.jpg

Very nice indeed. I have the same 610....and am sitting on my 4" GP to have converted to 10mm by Dave. Just haven't gotten around to sending it in to him yet. Planning on shortening the barrel to 3", but not slab siding it. Figure I'd want it to be heavy to soak up recoil.

I love this idea so much OP I'm off I'm to search for a GP-100 to have converted. I hope the year wait doesn't wear down on you. Good for you!

I'm a big 10mm fan, I own 3 pistols and a AR in 10mm. Reloading for them can really bring out the best of that cartridge.

I'm still looking for a pre-lock 610.

Actually the 357 Magnum is more powerful than the 10mm, but don't feel bad this is a common misconception. The 10mm has reached near mythical and unrealistic status ever since it was first chambered in a Glock.

I think you mean fourth chambered in a Glock, at least. It was first chambered in the Bren Ten, followed by the Colt Delta Elite and the S&W 1006.

I actually like the conversion. I've been looking for a 610 for quite awhile with no luck at all. I suppose I could google it, but what is $ for the 12 month conversion?

I passed on a NEW Blackhawk Convertible 10mm/38-40 at a show last year. $750 as I recall.
