You got that right.
You paid .48/rd.
I load .45acp for about .12/rd.
Want to shoot 4x as much for the same money? :)
I was reading through this thread, all the while thinking this.

You said earlier that you already had the brass to load your own. Honestly, that's the best approach anyway. It's the easiest way to find what your gun really likes. It's also the most fun way.

From the 1990's, I have many hundreds of Hornady #4517 45 Cal 230gr .451 FMJ-RN ammo. I called Hornady, and along with a lot of other information, "Brad" suggested I start with 5.2gr of Unique powder. He also suggested I load only 5 or 10 rounds, to see how well the gun likes it. All my reloading gear is already set up, except the new strip-feed priming tool which I'll get to shortly - but I can do the primers the old way until then, one at a time.

Before I do any of that, the gun needs to be broken in, meaning 500 to 1000 rounds of standard ammo.

natchezss has S&B 230 grn .45 ACP for cheap right now (7-22-15).
Their bronze is fairly cheap also.

I would bet that Sportsmansguide sells it for around the same, but might come in cheaper with one of their free-shipping (over $49) coupons, which are usually easy to find.
Palmetto State sometimes has it pretty cheap,as well.

edit: I just checked, and Palmetto has American Eagle for $14.99, which beats everything else, there, or at Sportsmanguide.
That's a VERY good price on American-made, brass-cased .45 ammo.

I addition to "Brad's" advice, I would strongly recommend that you confirm that load with at least one decent loading manual before doing it.

Sorry, I should have added that. It is in the 9th Edition of the Hornady Reloading Guidebook, #99239. Brad suggested I buy it from one of the mail order companies, to get the best price. I checked, and from Midway it's available here:

Thanks for the suggestion - I meant to include that, but got interrupted by a Federal Express delivery..... Brad wasn't so much "telling me what to do", but showing me all the information is there.

I've been shooting tons of Freedomunitions reman. It's been great and cheap. 1000 rnds 9mm less than $200. I think .45 was less than $300/1000.
