1911 9mm for cc?

There are so many good micro 9mm handguns on the market whose manual of arms is superior for cc I wonder why anyone would want a clunky 1911 type.
I honestly think some of those striker fired fanatics take that path because they can't master anything more than draw, point, pull trigger. I've heard some instructors won't let them bring chewing gum onto the range because it confuses them, especially during movement drills.

I sure wouldn't feel unarmed carrying it!

FWIW, my "1911-style" 9mm pistol has been completely reliable.

I just bought a Ruger LW Commander 9mm yesterday. I'm hoping to get to the range today. I have 2 1911's a STI Ranger II and Colt LW Commander both in 45ACP. I'm a 45 guy. But my back has been giving me problems so I bought a M&P Shield 9mm and really like it. But I've been wanting a 1911 LW Commander and my local gun store had the Ruger when I went in yesterday. Very well made and finished. Tight all around without being too tight. Has about a 4.5lb trigger, smooth, no grittiness, clean break. So I'm happy with it. Now it's time to shoot it and see how it does!!!

I still think if not carrying a 1911 in 45 I would like a 38 Super but I also don't think anyone who does want one in 9mm is wrong. The 9 is fine too but if going with a 9mm why not a Browning Hi-Power?

That is the beauty of having the choice of so many guns, there is something for everyone. That is a really good looking Ruger. I have heard only good things about them.

I got to the range today and the Ruger shot just excellent. I shot 150rds of UMC 115gr FMJ without any issues in the Wilson 9mm mags. I loaded 1 in the chamber and 10 in the mag and they all fed and fired with out any problems. I shot 50 rds of 124gr Gold Dots, my carry ammo. As many of you are aware Gold Dots are noted for being a problem in many semi-autos! Not one problem in the Ruger, they all fed without any problems out of the Wilson mags. The target pictures are at 21-25 ft and the targets are the 6" Shoot-N-C. I'm not the best shot anymore, need MORE practice. But it shot to POA at 20-25 ft. Since the 9mm is much cheaper than 45, I'll be able to get a lot more time in at the range. I'm very happy with the Ruger and it runs great!! I measured the trigger pull last night with my electronic gauge and it ran about 4.5lbs, no grittiness, smooth, and clean break. I like 4lb triggers on my carry guns but the trigger out of the box is very very good.

Have you thought about the Rock Island comes with 2 barrels one being the 22TCM and the other 9mm or 38 super your choice or the new Springfield Armory EMP4 9mm. Both are very nice pistols . I own the 22TCM in a rifle and it's still getting better, a true nail driver.works great on coyotes too.

I've got a pair of full sized 9mm 1911's. I don't carry them but do love how they shoot. That said, if I were to carry a 1911, I'd go .45 as it's the nearly same size and weight and capacity with allot more fight stopping power.

Thanks for the report. Ruger seems to have done these right. Looking forward to seeing one in person.

I like ~3.55 cal 1911's a lot. For me, the hard part to conceal is the grip/ butt...slide length isn't a big deal. I'm still waiting for a CCO size, lightweight .38 Super!

If it never comes about I might have to build one but I'd rather see Colt crank one out. Blued/ anodized please since I'm wishing...

funnelcake, I was just about to ask whether anyone makes a 9mm CCO! I agree with you-I've never understood the argument that a 4.25" barrel on a FULL-sized frame is somehow easier to conceal.

Sam

The Commander size for me is not an issue of concealment but one of comfort. When I sit with a 5" 1911, the barrel hits the seat and pushes it out of the holster. With the 4.25" barrel I don't have that problem. All my carry 1911s are LW versions due to my back problems, Degenerative Disc Disease. I've lost 2" of height in the last 3 years. I pack my Colt LW Commander 45ACP 1911 when my back is doing well. I have a Shield 9mm and now the Ruger LW 9mm 1911 for use when my back gives me a fit!! The Ruger will be carried quite a bit!!:D With the Wilson 9mm mags I get 10 in the mag and 1 in the chamber. Not bad for a single stack!!
