1911 choice

I've owned over a dozen 1911's from my experience only my STI has ever stood out from the rest that's not saying my Kimber and Sig aren't nice but over all the Trojan gets the win mine is in Hard chrome with a few other extras ran me almost 1500$

I don't know what the OP's 1911 knowledge base is so we should be careful when making recommendations.

I enjoy full size, fixed sights and no internal saftey

I'll admit I recommended a gun with adjustable sights, but identified it as such in my post.

We've had lots of Colt (I'm a fan), Kimber, and SIG recommendations, but remember the OP doesn't want an internal safety (though now that I read it again he may not be referring to a firing pin safety, but maybe the Springfield ILS). Every SIG 1911 has a Series 80 firing pin safety, and most of the Colt's do also. Every Kimber with a Series II designation also has a firing pin safety.

Just so happens my wife gave me the Ruger SR1911 pistol as a birthday present on December 2nd. The first bullet out of this gun hit the bull's-eye at 25 yards which got my attention. I went on to shoot a nice 3.5" to 4" group right out of the gate...This was with a factory Blazer 230 gr load...This is the first 1911 I have ever owned or shot for that matter.

Although I'm a huge Ruger fan anyway, all I can say is I love this gun & it shoots great & looks great too. I actually killed a big doe with already with some hand rolled loads...I don't see how a person could do any better than a Ruger 1911 IMO...

Thanks for all the replies, yes I mean a firing pin safety, I would prefer no ILS as well(though I've had a springer GI for almost ten years and its never not fired, course I never used the ILS either)
I don't want adjustable sights because for me, all my handguns are potential HD/ccw and I only shoot handguns at about 30yds anyway(exception being my ruger blackhawk- but I'd never ccw that)
Looking at the suggestions the Dan wesson valor looks good but I think it has adjustable sights, I also believe a colt series 70 would fit the bill the sti lawman that someone recommended- anybody own one?
Once again thanks for the feedback, keep the suggestions coming please

I looked at a Remington R1 1911 enhanced, it truly is a beautiful gun and your wife would still have several hundred dollars left for ammo.

The Dan Wesson Valor has fixed "tactical ledge night sights" and is pretty much their top of the line model. The RZ-45 Heritage is their entry level and has a tritium front sight and Novak's style fixed rear sight. MSRP on it is only $1,298.

The DW's have tool steel internals, no FP safety or ILS and some of the best fitting offered in a production 1911.
