2-1/2" Colt Python value

Had occasion to buy one of them things for $500 back about 20 years. The wife nixed that idea which is why wives should never be admitted to gun stores. I imagine your Python is quite valuable.
 
Looking at completed auctions on GB helps, also, open an account if you dont have one, and search and save all the similar guns on sale, and see where where they go. The ones that are too optimistically priced get no bids, Take the average. Some seem to slip through the cracks and sell fairly low-ish, some get bid up crazy high for some reason, but they rarely start high. Also, check out the Colt forum, maybe ask what difference the grips make, or get a set of correct grips and get it back to factory correct.
 
Pythons are odd revolvers.

2.5" barrel is pretty rare with only the 3" being harder to find.
Bright Nickle raises the value as does the factory letter.
The lack of the box and paperwork easily drops the value a couple of hundred bucks...but having been fired already takes it out of the serious collector category
The missing original grips takes it easily down another $300, even for a shooter
