We're back up and running (and shooting with any luck), hope you enjoy this match as well as the concurrent RF version!

Welcome to the Centerfire Match for the first quarter of 2014 (January-March)! This match is open to any centerfire rifle. This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 100yds.

There are Two Rifle Classes in the magnified division (only one for the non-magnified division):
->Target Rifles (purpose-built target rifles, modified rifles, rests, heavy rifles (over 10lbs), high magnification optics- over 10x may be used).
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles). Rests/sandbags/bipods are not permitted in this class, but shooting sticks (either the crossed or walking stick variety) are allowed. Use of a sling is encouraged. Shoots may be taken from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are not permitted in this class.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image attached below*. Scale to "fit to page" on standard 8.5x11in. paper (you should be able to read all text below the individual targets if printed correctly). The objective is to fire one shot at each of the target. The target is scored as 10pts for the center ring (with an X for a shot that obliterates the dot {I'm calling the inner ring of the RBA, USBR & IR-50/50 target a dot because it's entirely too small to fit a projectile within and depending upon the resolution may appear to be a dot} or is completely within the inner ring if dot isn't present), the score decreases by one point for every ring outside, for a maximum available score of 100pts (which is near impossible...you can thank me later :p).

100 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo (or load, if you care to divulge your secret recipe), Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before March 32nd. ;)

*P.S.: I've been wanting to give this one a try for a while now, hope you like it as much as I do.

I have a new rifle I too out for the second time today. Last weekend I loaded some several loads to try and was happy with a few of them. Ended up with the last two 5 groups being .625 inch at 100 yards in a 5-10 mph wind.

I'm excited that the centerfire match is back and wanted to get a target shot for it before the end of the quarter. I hope you bring it back next month. (I don't have any target .22 ammo for the rimfire match.)

Conditions were rough today. 15-20mph winds coming in at about 45 degrees from my front-right side. Actual temp was about 32 degrees. But it was mostly sunny! A challenging day for sure, but I felt like a learned a lot. I need to shoot in the wind more often...

Here's my best of three targets. 88 by my count. I'm excited to see what this rifle and I can do once we get to know each other better! (and the wind dies down)

I had one other decent target that had 2x, but I completely missed the BR-50 and that ruined it. :banghead:

Here's my new rifle:

It's a 20" Rock River Arms Varmint Upper on a lower I assembled, also RRA. I put a Geissele SSA-E trigger in it (a nice light two stage). I loaded up some Nosler 69gn Cust. Comp. bullets over 24.8gn of Varget. They are flying at a rather sedate 2700fps.

I don't have the money yet for the scope I want to put on it, so I robbed the scope from my .22 target rifle, since I haven't been able to find any target .22 for less than 25 cents per round, and I wasn't prepared for this drought we are in. If I had some I'd be in the rimfire match as well. The scope is a Mueller Target 8-32x by 44mm. I had it set at about 24 for this range session. The wind, sun, and cold temps made the mirage bad at greater than that. I shot from a bench using a bipod and a small field bag.

Congrats on the new rifle, Gregaw. I am planning to have both the Rimfire and Centerfire matches next month, but they will stay quarterly matches until participation picks up enough to make greater frequency a feasible endeavor.

:)

Well I'm going to give the CF match one more shot this month...I hate to do it, but if there's still no interest I think I may discontinue it until there are more folks interested in participating. I'm hoping that the weather just hasn't been conducive and as things warm up we'll have more shooters.

:)
