.22LR ammo is now available, but where?

If you have access to a PX/BX check there. I buy it at reasonable cost at my PX (Federal 325ct for $18). They always have something in 22lr on the shelf.

Big LGS near Owensboro KY with no limits. Stacks of Federal Auto Match 325 Box for $18.99

^ That's still half empty compared to some of the Academy carts here. They do have a 500rd limit per day. Good to see it coming back though. they had 50rd boxes for $2.50!

I'm surprised that shelf system doesn't collapse under all that weight!

Here in southern Georgia, we may be one of the last areas to get .22lr back in the stores. Not at Walmart, & not at Academy, but Gander Mountain has standard CCI 50rd boxes on the shelf at $4.49/box with no limits and it's not disappeared yet. And my local small town hardware store has 50rd boxes for $5.50 (not a great price, but - bless them - it's on their shelf)

Perhaps the "Great .22lr Drought" has finally broken!! Now I'll start stocking up, although the $2.50/box price would be better.

I was at Gander Mountain recently. .22 CCI Mini-mags for $7.49 per 100. Got me a thousand rounds.

I even see around here Remington Golden bullet buckets of 1400 rounds for $80 or so now. LOTS of buckets for sale!

I have been able to get Federal Auto Match in various stores. I picked a box up at Cabela's on Sunday. It
isn't very impressive looking but it runs good in all my automatic pistols (3) and a rifle.

After a very long drought, I've finally been able to stock up on some in the last few months. Not the selection, volume or prices as before but enough to keep me shooting.

Hang in there folks, especially after the election.
Our local small gun shop has around 10 flavors of .22 on the shelf, and has had so for probably 5 months or more. I was browsing his shelves and he has TONS of .22 still in the shipping cases which he hasn't bothered to open as he doesn't have the shelf space.

He started refusing .22 shipments quite a few months ago. Like everyone else, up until then he was taking any .22 he could get.

Hang in there and don't overpay - the nationwide drought should be ending soon.

A few days ago I was out with my wife, we stopped at Walmart and even Walmart had a good stock. Not needing any I really didn't overly look at brands and prices, it was the Walmart in Bainbridge, Ohio. Lately I have been seeing plenty, both brick and mortar as well as online.

Academy seems to be the place to go. I'm in Lake Mary Florida and the picture in post 178 is pretty representative. I picked up a couple of boxes of CCI Mini-mags for 8$/100. Only place cheaper is Wal-Mart at $7.78 per 100. But so far no one has stock like Academy.

Yes: Academy Sports, a half mile west of Wolfchase Mall, Memphis/Bartlett TN.

Tonight they had about twenty 'mini bricks' (325 rds.) of blue-box Federal .22LR.
Also avail. were lots of single boxes of Ferderal, Aquila etc, 100-rd. boxes of CCI. Bought one 'mini brick' of Federal.

But I only went to buy steel-case 9x18 Mak. They discounted boxes of Monarch 9x18 Makarov by five dollars per 50-rd. box. This was the real surprise! :) And only five boxes were left (no surprise).

Maybe wait until mid-January for some discounting, and buy via "Gunbot" or Ammoseek" for regular bulk deals. The local flippers--spending their cultured, retirement sleep in Walmart--might finally be feeling
some anxiety about their .22 LR "precious".

Easy to find around here although I don't shoot any I keep some around if I have to train someone. Federal 325 packs are 19.95 last week,. Most do have 500 round per person limits.

mboylan:
Thanks for the reminder about potential import tariffs. The possibility that 'she' might have been elected (a nasty 'incident' could have prompted 'her' Congress to penalize imported ammo), plus retirement, created strong motivation to store thousands of rds. of imported sporting ammo.

At least the .22 'bubble' is deflating even more. Congrats especially to the young/newer shooters with .22 LR guns.

Some of the shops have .22 LR though imported stuff. Some CCI but if looking for Winchester, Remington offerings, zip. Prices are in that $.10/round range before sales tax. SGA sent a notification of stock arrival but by the time I checked the Aguila about 7 hours later it was gone. Local shops sell the 500 round brick for $50.

Like to see as many new shooters as possible out enjoying themselves safely with 22's. It traditionally is the place to start and then you work up in caliber. The shortage sort of pushed many new shooters to larger calibers where they saw ammo available.

I saw 22lr at my local WalMart for the first time in the better part of a decade

The prince was outrageous. 333rds of bulk Winchester for the majority of a $20 Bill. I passed but nice to see.

A few weeks ago I was visiting the next town over, and figured I'd drop by the local police supply / gun shop. Normally prices are way too high, but they have decent sales. Apparently they had a big Thanksgiving sale, as there were still piles of ammo everywhere in the aisles.

Prices weren't too bad, and they had tons of various flavors of .22 ammo.

I picked up 5 boxes of CCI Stingers for $7.99 / box, which I believe is $1 higher than Walmart's price.

Now I'm seeing Buckets of Remington Goldens at Gander Mountain and Academy Sports. $80 or so for 1400 rounds!

LOTS OF BUCKETS!!

That is good to see. I am still not comfortable with the pricing outside of the big box stores on 22 rimfire ammo.
