There was a case in a MacDonald's in New York where people waiting to order their Big Macs started falling down. Turns out, in adjacent office, separated only by a sheet rock wall, someone was using a nail gun.
If you're going to use a nail-setting blank in a .22 rifle, I recommend using lead shot -- with my Hammond Game Getter I have a sizing die -- a hockey puck-sized steel disk with a highly-polished tapered hole in the middle. I put a bit of motor oil in a shallow dish and pour in the buckshot, then one-by-one push them through the hole with a 1/4" diameter rod.
What you want is number 4 shot, about 0.24" in diameter. Number 4 may or may not shoot unsized, but I'd try loading the rifle with a short, curved ramrod to poke the shot into the breech and into the origin of the rifling. Try a brown (lowest power) blank first.
Case prices were under $300. I would consider $3.49/box to be a reasonable price in today:s market. Good European match ammo that is much more accurate than CCI SV goes for $5.50 to $6.00 a box at non-gouger prices. What did CCI standard velocity cost 2 years ago. Wasn't it close to $4.99?
I never really bought 50 or 100rd boxes, only larger bulk, so i wasn't sure but i thought that cci was always relatively expensiveCase prices were under $300. ...and no the manufacturer has not raised prices that much. ATK has raised prices by maybe 5 or 6 percent in that time.
Well, the manufacturers have not raised prices much. Some of the big box stores have not raised prices much. So, your statement is not entirely true. People who pay sucker prices just to have .22 are the main problem right now. They are prolonging the problem, providing a market for resellers and gougers and pretty much hurting everyone.Seems like things have come up a tad to 10cents a round. Bought some on the 4th of July at trop gun - they had a special that if you ordered that day, free shipping on everything so ordered some 9mm and a 325 round box of Federal Ammo 22LR Champion AM22.
I think its going to be rare or hard to find things under 9 cents going forward...

Sic semper tyrannis !No limit policy on any ammo at my Walmart. 10,000-12,000 round 22LR shipments are showing up. All 22 is gone by 7-7:30 AM bought by a handful of people. Scalped at local gun shows. Eventually scalpers will not be able to sell it at high prices, if people stop buying it from them.

When we look at the price of 22 LR ammunition for example there is something to consider. What 22 LR ammunition are we talking about? Post after post regarding the price of 22 LR fail miserably to mention the manufacturer and brand. CCI branded 22 LR has always been good ammunition but any of the CCI flavors have always carried a higher price tag than for example Remington Thunderbolts. You can't compare apples and oranges.
As to those who complain about the people in line at Wal-Mart at 7-7:30 AM who seem to annoy you? I suggest you get there at 6:30 AM. I have been in my local Wal-Mart at 3:00 PM and every now and then seen 22 LR so spare the BS.
Last weekend I was at the Cabela's in Columbus, Ohio. They had plenty of CCI 22 LR standard Velocity target ammunition. This was the 40 grain target flavor 1070 FPS. The cost was $4.99 a 50 round box. About the same as several years ago. The limit was 2 boxes per customer. I saw people with 2, 4 or 6 boxes depending on how many people were in their party. Big deal!
If you are going to single out any store be it Wal-Mart or whoever at least be so kind as to provide the location. So if you choose to mention:
Back it up with something substantial like times and location or you really have nothing other than the same BS repeated over and over again through the rumor control factory.
Just My Take....

So you don't believe people line up at some walmarts early in the morning because you have seen ammo at 3:00 pm....lol, ok. BTW you didn't give the location of your walmart.
Although it has been said you didn't state where your local WalMart was, to your credit, you did tell us where the Cabela's was for the info you reported. When we look at the price of 22 LR ammunition for example there is something to consider. That is not a nationwide policy. The 4 i frequent, olive branch, southaven, and Grenada MS and Cordova TN do not put ammo our at different times. They put them out in the morning and there are lines. Not what he said at all.
All the Walmarts I've been to recently, in my frequent travels between SC and VA, are posted that they put ammunition out several times a day. Some still have limits on all ammunition, others have limits only on .22.
So part of Walmart's tactics to "spread the wealth", as it were, is to stock their ammunition several times a day instead of just one predictable time. This, in addition to their purchase limitations.
I, too, have found .22 in several Walmarts during various times of the day.

That aint BS as he attempted to claim
My local WalMart is Bedford, Ohio with a few others in my general area of Bedford Heights, Ohio (Cleveland suburbs). The place I have had the best luck would be the Gander Mountain located in Macedonia, Ohio. I don't overly look for 22 LR as going into this mess I was in pretty good shape. At the Gander Mountain they generally were stocking ammunition on Thursday mornings.Although it has been said you didn't state where your local WalMart was, to your credit, you did tell us where the Cabela's was for the info you reported.
By the way, where is your local WalMart ? Just curious. Thanks.
